The music:  Seeing as the movie is focused around the indie music scene of NYC, the soundtrack was awesome.  I got home and downloaded it immediately.  With bands such as Vampire Weekend and Shout Out Louds, this soundtrack is one worth getting even if you haven't seen the movie.

The characters: PERFECT.  That's about all I can say.  I love Michael Cera.  I love Kat Dennings.  I love how Andy Samberg randomly pops up in the middle of the movie.  I love it. I love it. I love it.

Basically, this movie is one of the best things to happen to me.  It is so perfect in that it combines romance with the indie music feel to create something that both guys and girls will like.

ps.  I LOVE MICHAEL CERA.  SO MUCH.

Segundo dia da terceira edição da Invasão Sueca (a minha primeira). A expectativa não podia ser pequena para o show que me fez deixar o TIM Festival meio de lado. O festival cool escandinavo, veio, este ano, com um line-up roqueiro - suavizado apenas pelas baladas da dupla Club 8, que se apresentou no SESC Vila Mariana. Para o Studio SP, a escalação contava com o grupo Shout Out Louds e a grande atração da noite, o trio Peter Bjorn and John (assim, sem vírgula mesmo). E foram estes últimos (mais precisamente o terceiro CD deles) que me convenceram a dar uma volta pela noite da Augusta, em plena quarta-feira. Bom, mas vamos por partes...

• Shout Out Louds

Para começar a aquecer a noite do gélido (mas sempre animado) Studio SP, teríamos a apresentação do Shout Out Louds, nome que desconhecia até o anúncio deste line-up. (Obs: desconhecia a banda, mas como muitos, já gostava bastante de uma de suas músicas - Shut Your Eyes, aquela do comercial)

22h45, aproximadamente. Palco montado e instrumentos a postos. Já começava a me perguntar se o show, marcado para as 22h, ainda demoraria muito para começar. Quando, sem mais nem menos, cinco pessoas sobem ao palco, sem cerimônias, pegam os instrumentos e começam a tocar. Assim, sem que grande parte do público percebesse, o show do quinteto de Estocolmo começou - com a música Sound Is The World, do primeiro CD da banda, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff. E, da mesma forma como começou, direta e objetiva, a apresentação seguiu até seu fim. Uma boa apresentação, aliás. Boa, apenas.

Fazendo juz ao nome da banda, as músicas executadas ao vivo ganham mais força e peso em relação às versões de estúdio. Além da já esperada Shut Your Eyes, outro destaque foi Tonight I Have To Leave It - do álbum mais recente, Our Ill Wills. Além de ter sido a música mais animada, contou com outro ponto forte (e recorrente) do show: o uso de instrumentos diferentes e pouco convencionais - pelo menos para um show de rock. Chocalhos, pandeirolas e, no caso de Tonight I Have..., um agogô!

Fora isso, o show transcorreu-se sem grandes apoteoses. Nada muito marcante para alguém recém-apresentado à banda. Talvez tenha faltado um pouco da ousadia que sobrou na apresentação do trio compatriota que viria logo a seguir.

Terminado o show, enquanto os próprios integrantes da banda desmontavam a parafernalha de palco e recolhiam seus instrumentos, ouvi as reclamações da Thaís. "Poxa, a tecladista (Bebban Stenborg) nem cantou" (como faz em umas das faixas do Our Ill Wills). É, a ousadia ainda estava mesmo por vir.

• Peter Bjorn and John

Surpreendente é a melhor palavra para definir a apresentação do trio Peter Bjorn and John. Não que eu não esperasse um bom show. Apenas esperava-o de outro jeito. Afinal, quem escuta os CDs da banda pode imaginar qualquer coisa de sua performance ao vivo, a não ser um show enérgico e barulhento (no bom sentido) como o que vi naquele pequeno palco do Studio SP.

Após um começo mais tranqüilo, com a melancólica Start To Melt - cantada pelo baterista John Eriksson - o guitarrista e vocalista Peter Morén entrou em cena e deu início ao seu show particular. Morén é exatamente o oposto do que eu pensava e do que sua voz e suas músicas me trasmitiam pelos CDs. Hiperativo e nem um pouco frio, ele pulou, dançou, conversou com a platéia, brincou com seu tamborim recém-comprado e imitou o som de uma cuíca. Uma presença de palco irretocável, complementada ainda pelo baixista Björn Yttling que, se mais contido que Morén, não deixou também de chamar atenção, como nas várias vezes que subiu nos retornos à beira do palco. Para resumir, a banda, em sua apresentação ao vivo, ganha outra cara. O mesmo se dá com o seu som, que ganha em peso e velocidade - como nas ótimas Objects Of My Affection e The Chills, ambas do álbum Writer's Block.

Este aclamado (por crítica, público e por mim também, se é que interessa) terceiro CD da banda foi a base do setlist, sendo quase inteiramente executado - apesar do trio ter acabado de lançar seu quarto trabalho, o disco (sim, disco...de VINIL) Seaside Rock, projeto mais experimental, apenas com músicas instrumentais. Num dos momentos mais divertidos do show, Peter anunciou a participação especial de Bebban Stenborg, tecladista do Shout Out Louds, que voltou ao palco (com um bigode pintado no rosto e dancinhas engraçadas), para cantar o mega-hit Young Folks. Os álbuns mais antigos também renderam alguns bons momentos, principalmente em It Beats Me Every Time.

Tivemos, sim, alguns momentos mais calmos, como em Paris 2004, mas o que vimos, no geral, foi um show de rock, puro, quase punk - ultrapassando, por vezes, o "quase", como no cover de Trasmission, do Joy Division. Para terminar, uma catarse no último volume, gritos e sons distorcidos.

O que ficou, ao fim, além da satisfação pelos shows, foi a esperança de que a Invasão Sueca tenha uma vida longa e possa crescer nos próximos anos (mas não muito). É um festival que merece atenção. E, por sinal, você sabe quem viabiliza a sua realização, em parceria com o coletivo pernambucano Coquetel Molotov? ...o Governo da Suécia! É, tem governo por aí que investe de verdade na cultura do seu país. Através do Swedish Institute, o país escandinavo visa divulgar sua cultura pelo mundo. Além do Brasil, eles possuem projetos nos EUA, no Japão, na China, entre outros. Pois é.

Segredos, tristezas e memórias gritadas com muita delicadeza, apesar do que sugere o nome Shout Out Louds. É justamente essa sutil explosão de sentimentos que me atrai na banda sueca, que está nesses dias no Brasil, onde participará da Invasão Sueca no Studio SP.

A banda conquistou muitos ouvidos brasileiros com um comercial do Fiat Punto em que tocava Shut Your Eyes. A música, uma de suas composições mais animadas, é do primeiro CD, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, lançado na Suécia em 2003.

O som do quinteto de Estocolmo lembra, inevitavelmente, os ingleses do The Cure. A voz de Adam Olenius é muito parecida com a de Robert Smith, assim como o ambiente criado pela percussão das duas bandas. A banda, cansada dessa comparação, diz que é apenas uma coincidência.

A batida das músicas do Shout Out Louds, por sinal, deve muito a Bjorn Yttling, do Peter Bjorn and John (banda que também estará na Invasão). Ele produziu o segundo álbum da banda, Our Ill Wills. Apesar das letras com um tom deprê ("I don´t wanna feel like I don´t have a future", Adam canta em Impossible, uma das faixas que resume bem o trabalho), o ritmo acelerado e a percussão tornam o álbum leve. Segundo Adam, há um clima de primavera neste álbum da banda. Mas trata-se da primevera sueca, com neve.

A música que eu mais gosto deste CD é justamente a mais destoante. Blue Headlights tem um quê de Belle and Sebastian e traz a voz singela da tecladista Bebban Stenborg. Foi a primeira vez que Bebban assumiu os vocais. Acho que deveria fazê-lo mais vezes, o resultado é belo!

O Festival Invasão Sueca - o de line-up mais reduzido de todos os festivais paulistanos deste semestre - chega a mais uma edição nesta semana.

Amanhã e quarta-feira o público da cidade tem a chance de conferir no Studio SP (Rua Augusta, 591, telefone 3129 7040, R$ 50) o som do Shout Out Louds e do Peter Bjorn & John. Eternizados como a banda da música do assovio, PB&J ficaram famosos com a canção e agora estão lançando o quarto álbum, todo instrumental, Seaside Rock.

Segue essa deliciosa canção que, infelizmente, não encontra nenhuma à altura no resto do álbum Writer's Block, de 2006, do qual ela faz parte. Para matar a saudade - ou deixar com vontade de ir aos shows dos caras - eis Young Folks:

A dupla formada por Karolina Komstedt e Johan Angergård, compõe músicas docinhas, queridas, um pouco melancólicas, é verdade, mas lindas. O último disco da dupla é de 2007, "The boy who couldn't stop dreaming" diz bastante sobre o trabalho destes dois, para ouvir em boa cia e sonhar bastante.

Shout Out Louds

Considero uma boa trilha para um dia de sol. "Impossible" é disparada a minha música favorita do mais recente trabalho da banda, "Our ill wills", de 2007. No myspace do grupo alguns remixes estão disponíveis, mas, como quase sempre, as versões originais são incrivelmente melhores.

Um assobio pop e provavelmente o show mais esperado desta Invasão. O hit "Young Folks" do primeiro álbum do trio, "Writer's block", invadiu as pistas mundiais ano passado (e me enlouqueceu com aquele assobio infernal), o que garantiu que o novo álbum da banda, que está sendo gravado no momento, seja muito aguardado.

Pra começar, ela traz, nesta quarta-feira, dia 10, Bill Callahan, músico norte-americano que faz um sensacional e sofisticado folk/rock, que se apresentava sob o pseudônimo de Smog, com mais de 20 excelentes álbuns lançados.

Depois, como se não bastasse, o Studio apresenta a Invasão Sueca, nos dias 23 e 24 de setembro, com duas bandas um tanto novas de lá, que estão dominando o cenário: Peter, Bjorn & John (!!!) e Shout Out Louds.

A primeira (que instigamos alguns posts abaixo), é responsável por um rock do mais criativo, e já possui três discos muito bons na praça: "Peter, Bjorn e John" (2002), "Falling Out" (2004), e "Writers's Block" (2006).

A segunda, é mais ou menos da mesma época, faz um rock indie muito bom, moderninho e bem animado, e é responsável por um single bem famoso, que já ilustrou até propagando de carro (say yes...don't say no...)

Aquele toque amigo: não perderia estes shows por nada. E não diga que não avisamos!
