Saddleback presidential forum: How did they respond?

Rick Warren held a presidential forum recently where he interviewed the candidates on different topics important to the American people. He interviewed Barack Obama for the first hour of the forum and John McCain the second hour.

Obama said that he feels that America’s greatest moral failure is “not abiding by the command of Jesus to care for ‘the least of these’”. Obama said that this applies to many things like poverty, racism, sexism, and that we should “provide ladders of opportunity for people to move up to the middle class”. When asked about the abortion issue, Obama said that he’s not sure when an unborn baby becomes a human life worth protecting and couldn’t provide an instance of when he’s voted to limit abortions. When asked when a baby should receive human rights, Obama said that he didn’t know for certain and the answer was “above his pay grade”. He said that he wasn’t for Roe v. Wade because he was pro-abortion, but because “women don't make decisions about abortion casually”. When asked about marriage, Obama said that he believes that marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman, but that he wouldn’t support an amendment with that sort of language. He said that we have never defined marriage historically in the Constitution. When Obama “broke it down”, he said that marriage has always been a tradition of state law and that most people believe that there should be an amendment because of same-sex marriage. Obama said that while he doesn’t support same-sex marriage, he does support homosexual civil unions.

When John McCain was questioned, it started with a question about energy. He said that he believes that the US should drill offshore for oil so that we can become independent of foreign oil, a position that he didn’t hold 10 years ago. When asked about abortion, McCain said that he believes that life begins at conception. He reminded those present of his 25-year record of pro-life voting and committed his presidency to the pro-life stance. He also said that while he supports embryonic stem cell research, he is “wildly optimistic” that skin cell research will make the debate “an academic one”. When asked about marriage, McCain reiterated that he believed that California was wrong for legalizing same-sex marriage. He believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. He also said that he believed that the states should make the decision. He also said that it doesn’t mean that people can’t enter into legal agreements or have the rights of all citizens. When asked about religious persecution, McCain said that he would use his position as president to call on countries like China to stop their persecution of Christians.

While I don’t agree with Rick Warren and think that he is preaching another “gospel”, I hope that this forum helps people realize just how different the candidates are. I heard some of the audio clips from the forum and the difference is amazing. The answers that Barack Obama gave were a lot of double speak and didn’t really answer anything. He refused to give a definite answer as to when an unborn baby is a human being. He said that he believes that there is a “moral and ethical aspect to this issue” but wouldn’t state what that aspect is. He has, however, stood up for and promoted abortion for a number of years, so I think that we can readily see what his morals are. He said that he couldn’t answer when life began because it was “above his pay grade”. If that’s the case, and you’re the “thoughtful, caring, bastion of hope” that you promote yourself to be, why support abortion at all? If you have the morals that you claim you do, and you don’t know when life begins, why would you aggressively promote something like abortion? If you’re not sure, then it’s very possible that you’re killing babies right? Granted, the issue is a lot clearer than that. He said that he believes that there is common ground that our goal should be to reduce the number of abortions. Um…forgive me if I’m stating the obvious, if we get rid of legal abortions, wouldn’t that reduce them? If we stop/shut down Planned Parenthoods and abortions clinics and prosecute them as the murderers they are, and if we make abortion illegal, that should reduce them right? If we couple this with promoting abstinence and actually teach our kids moral absolutes, we’ll see abortions go down! If he can’t clearly answer a question like this, is he really cut out to be president? Obama was also asked if evil exists and how we should handle it (ignore it, negotiate with it, contain it, or defeat it). He said that evil does exist and then started naming all the places we see evil and that it should be “confronted squarely” and that while it’s God’s task to remove evil but that we can be “soldiers in that task”.

On the other hand, John McCain gave clear and definite answers. When asked about what we should do with evil, his response was “defeat it”. Period. There was no doubt where he stood. While I don’t agree with everything that John McCain has said, given the choice before me, I will not vote for Barack Obama. John McCain may not be perfect, but he is clear on where he stands and is consistent. Obama is not. He has been trying to court “evangelicals” for the past few months and this was just another opportunity to do so. I hope that Christians will see that Barack Obama has waffled on what he believes and where he stands on issues (except abortion and homosexual rights). I don’t understand how someone can support unbiblical practices that scripture calls sin and still call himself a Christian. Because of that I can’t vote for him. I pray that our nation will realize that our hope isn’t in a president (whether it’s John McCain or Barack Obama). The hope of our nation is in God and God alone. It is up to Christians to choose leaders that will obey the scriptures the way that God meant them and nothing else.

Georgia's Church-Aided Refugees Ask 'Where Was God?'

Christian organizations and local churches are helping the hundreds of thousands of refugees that are fleeing the Georgian conflict. Those helping say that many of the people that come to them for help are there only with the clothes on their backs. The convents and churches of the area are taking in the refugees to give them shelter. One of the convent directors, known as Mother Nonna, said that she’s never seen so many kids with fear in their eyes. She said that the most difficult question to answer was “Where was God?” The fighting in Georgia started when the province of South Ossetia chose to secede from Georgia and unite with North Ossetia.

The question is one that all of us have asked in times of trouble. The answer is always the same. God is right where He’s always been. He is on His throne in heaven and is still sovereign. He is not surprised by the events in Georgia; or Darfur, or India for that matter. He not only knows they are happening He allows them. There is nothing that happens that He doesn’t know about. This is not the same as Him being the cause of those things though! Man has been given the free will to choose. The choice he has made has put him in the position he’s in. This isn’t just for things like war; it’s for money problems, marital problems, and so on. If you’re struggling with something, God knows! There are many things that make it seem like God isn’t with us though. The main one is the fact that the church has done a horrible job of rightly dividing and teaching the truth. If they did, there would be many more who know that God is there and would understand their times of trouble. Another reason that this is so hard for us (even Christians) is the fact that man likes to be in control. I do and so do you. We like to know exactly how things will be; we like to have complete control over the tiniest details. Unfortunately, we don’t have that control. Ever. We may think that we do, but how many times have we been in a situation where we thought something was going to be a certain way and then something happened that just completely destroyed all of our best laid plans? We don’t have control over anything, but as Christians we know who does. It’s God. We know that He loves His children, even when we go through trials. We may not understand why we’re going through our trials, but if we understand what the scripture says about God, we have to know that He will do what’s right. God is holy, just, and righteous. Everything that He does is right, whether we agree with it or understand it or we don’t. To those in Georgia, God is there. He sees your struggles, He knows what you’re going through, and He will do what is right.

Thousands Fast, Cry Mercy for America

Founder Lou Engle says that the cry for change in America is louder than the cry for mercy. Engle said this during the 12-hour TheCallDC event that was held last weekend at the National Mall in Washington, DC. Mike Huckabee, one-time presidential candidate, joined Engle on the stage to cry out for mercy for the millions of babies that have been murdered through abortion. Huckabee said that while it’s easy to point fingers, the blame squarely falls on those who “claim we know the Lord but have not lived it and not been faithful”. While the event happened just months before the election, the founder said that it’s not about the election but about a “spiritual awakening”. He said that many people, including Christian leaders, aren’t putting their faith “in politics or anywhere else”. Because of this, Engle said that the time was right for corporate fasting and prayer. Engle said that he was “moved” to see so many young people. He also said that the main issue for young evangelicals is abortion, even though studies have shown that that’s not necessarily the case.

I went to TheCall that was held in July of last year. At the time, I thought it was a wonderful thing and that having all of those people together praying together, I was sure that something was going to change in this nation, and in my own life. A little over a year later, things have changed, but never like I they thought they would. I look at what goes on at TheCall now and shake my head. They promote some great things, but I wonder what they really expect. In the year since the last Call, what’s changed? Will this get some people’s attention? Of course. Whenever you get thousands of people it is going to draw some attention. But what is the Call really doing? The motive of the Call is a “spiritual awakening”, but is that what our country needs? They talk about fasting and prayer, but what about repentance, righteousness, and holiness? Is twelve hours of not taking in anything than water and juice going to change our nation? Is 50,000 people gathering at the National Mall going to change the hearts of the entire nation? Even if it gets the attention of the people of America, does that justify it? There is a lot of money going into these, and I wonder if it couldn’t be spent better. Instead of gathering together the thousands of dollars needed to put on the Call wouldn’t it be better spent teaching and preaching the gospel? If I remember correctly, I never heard the gospel being preached. They say it’s not about fame, but why the gathering at all? Why the TV cameras? It would have been less expensive to send out an email and get everyone to fast for 40 days up to the day and then pray and fast all day, wouldn’t it? Our nation doesn’t need a “spiritual awakening” and it doesn’t need a “Call”. What it needs is a group of people who call themselves Christians and actually live it out. It needs a church that stands on the authority of the Bible instead of helping the enemies of God destroy it. It needs the gospel of Christ going out to the entire nation. If this happens, then our nation will see change…

Evangelist to U.S. Christians: Don't 'Snipe' Muslims with Bible Verses

Dr. John Azumah recently spent time telling Christians gathered at the Inside-Out conference in Long Beach, California. He is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in Ghana and spoke to those gathered about not “sniping” Muslims with Bible verses. He said that Muslims are not just “nameless, faceless creatures”. He said that many Christians don’t know Muslims and that they are “strangers to us”. Azumah said that Christians should be salt and light and not “flashlights or fires”. He said that many Christians are like flashlights, shining in people’s eyes and causing them to turn away from the truth. He said that we should “engage them and show them that you love them” before you show them verses. He said that Christians should be lanterns because lanterns shine their light in non-imposing ways. He said that we should be like Barnabas and use our testimony to help people see Jesus like the woman at the well did. He said that Samaritans were to Jews as Muslims are to Christians. He said that Christians should wait on the Lord and wait for the Holy Spirit to come to you.

With all do respect, this is ridiculous. It seems that Mr. Azumah doesn’t understand Christians or Muslims. It also seems that he doesn’t understand some of what scripture says about the life of a Christian. The Bible says that we will be hated because of the message we carry with us. It says that the world will not like us because we follow Christ. This doesn’t mean that we can do what ever we want and aggravate people. But it doesn’t mean that we should water down the message or “wait” for the “perfect chance” to share the “gospel”. This makes no sense. If we understand scripture, we know that none of us are promised tomorrow and this means that it is up to us to get people the gospel as soon as possible! As far as Muslims are concerned, if they truly follow what their version of “scripture” says, they hate Christians and Jews. The idea that Christians hate Muslims like the Jews hated the Samaritans is not even close. It’s a generalization that he’s using to try and make his point. If Christians really hated Muslims like he says they do, why are so many spending their lives (many giving those lives) to reach them with the truth? To say that we are “sniping” Muslims by not spending weeks, months, and years getting to know them and instead giving them the truth of the scriptures is a gross misunderstanding of evangelism. It is not necessary to get to know people for weeks or months before we present the gospel to them. I can get to know someone in three minutes and then present the gospel to him or her and I’ve done it. The Muslims that I’ve spoken to this way have not reacted any differently than the non-Muslims have. The bottom line is that Muslims are just like anyone else who hasn’t received Christ for their salvation. They need to hear the truth of the Word of God because THAT is the power of God to salvation. It isn’t “getting to know them” or trying to be their friend first. I’m not saying that Christians shouldn’t be friends with Muslims or that we shouldn’t “get to know” them. What I’m saying is that it’s not necessary to get to know them in order to tell them the truth…

• PREPARAZIONE FISICA

Fondamentale la preparazione fisica di "base", tanto è vero che l'equipaggio che ci ha preceduto ha cominciato ad allenarsi negli anni cinquanta.Visto che lo stesso equipaggio si è allenato per gare di canottaggio, la preparazione fisica specifica per lo Snipe appare ininfluente ai fini del miglioramento delle prestazioni in regata.

• PREPARAZIONE MENTALE

Ininfluente, ITA 28685 con un timoniere che è andato in ritiro spirituale in India ed un prodiere appena tornato da un viaggio a Riga alla ricerca di se stesso è stato messo dietro da 33 equipaggi su 38.

• DIETA E REGIME ALIMENTARE

Per portare lo Snipe ai massimi livelli è necessario seguire una dieta rigorosa:
- colazione con cappuccino e cornetto, fortemente indicato un rinforzino di focaccia ligure (valutare se nella configurazione classica o in quella alle cipolle)
- pranzo in barca costituito da frutta esotica (banane) e spremuta di arance rosse, un binomio che permette di mantenere l'equipaggio lucido, far scivolare gli avversari più vicini sulle bucce di banana sapientemente abbandonate lungo la rotta, interagire con altri equipaggi.
Nota: l'interazione è possibile solo con le banane ancora integre.
- cena a base di carboidrati, preceduti da porzioni generose di affettati magri (salamini) e seguita da alimenti ipocalorici (Haagen Dazs alla crema). Il reintegro del corretto contenuto di zuccheri viene garantito dalla generosa assunzione di liquidi ambrati alcolici.

• MESSA A PUNTO DELLA BARCA

Per le manovre fisse ritengo opportuno rileggere il libro di G. Kasparov "le mie aperture (di crocette) preferite"
Mi è sembrato di capire che gli svuotatori reversibili siano stati soppiantati da quelli a singolo effetto (quelli che svuotano solo, per interderci). Le manovre correnti sono fondamentali: mentre per la tensione sartie è sufficiente un calibro, per la rotaia fiocco è utile dotarsi di un micrometro.
Utile migliorare la scorrevolezza dello scafo con Starblaze, fondamentale lubrificare con eau de chat il tangone.

• CONDUZIONE

La gestione dello spi in poppa appare ininfluente, meglio focalizzarsi sul fiocco e sull'assetto. In bolina non c'è mai stato abbastanza vento per il trapezio, da verificare la sua utilità nelle regate con vento fresco e poca onda.

• ABBIGLIAMENTO TECNICO

La nostra vera unica grande lacuna, dobbiamo ammettere che non eravamo minimamente preparati, occorre verificare quanto prima con il Francis cosa occorra.
In: camicia maniche lunghe Paul & Shark tinta unita chiara pantaloni lunghi light grey (Musto) o blu navy (North Sails), quest'ultimo colore da verificare in base alla tonalità dello scafo e della montatura degli occhiali (con lenti rigorosamente a specchio) della Lolita a prua.
Out: T-shirt triste di un velaio sconosciuto.

• STRATEGIA

Indispensabile conoscere non tanto il campo di regata quanto l'ubicazione delle spiaggie vicino al circolo, il traffico abituale nel tratto Ventimiglia Sanremo, la lunghezza della manichetta dell'acqua nel piazzale antistante lo scivolo, gli orari del ristorante interno dello Yacht Club.

Smentiamo categoricamente le Voci infondate che affermano che dalla quarta zona sono giunti solo due equipaggi.

L'"ottimista", mio fido prodiere si e' divertito e ha riscosso enorme successo il suo progetto di rinnovare la beccaccia. Ecco uno stralcio di un dialogo con un altro timoniere in rientro dalle 3 prove di giovedi:

mio_prodiere: "Quando nello snipe ci saranno spi e trapezio vi daro' il benvenuto nel 21esimo secolo!!!"
altro_timoniere: "Devi morire alle cinghie!!!"

Durante il campionato come sempre si sono viste molte innovazioni tecnologiche. Oltre al carbonio e al kevlar, le superfici dei timoni sono state dotate di vernici speciali che ne diminuiscono sensibilmente l'attrito nell'acqua. Ecco il nostro "ottimista" e il buon Claudio che cercano di carpire i segreti di uno di questi timoni innovativi.

Una volta arrivato nella bella citta’ ligure sono venuto a sapere che il Festival si sarebbe tenuto a Febbraio prossimo: essendo in leggero anticipo (sei mesi), ho a malincuore ripiegato sul 66-esimo Campionato Italiano Snipe che quest’anno sarebbe stato organizzato sulle acque antistanti il teatro Ariston.

Faccio subito capire al resto della flotta che non sono qui per scherzare e che mi sono preparato come si deve: sono andato alla ricerca del segreto della bolina perfetta in India, cercando di carpirne l’essenza dai Sadu.

Il mio nuovo prodiere (Lorenz, il terzo prodiere nelle ultime tre regate… questi prodieri non durano niente) non e’ stato da meno: era appena rientrato dalla Trieste-Riga, la famosissima long-distance con un bordo di 648 miglia nautiche (=1167 chilometri) da percorrere in bicicletta che, assieme alla Parigi-Dakar e alla Ariccia-Hobart, costituisce il temuto “Trittico del Diavolo”, l’incubo di diverse generazioni di velisti.

Abbiamo un’arma segreta: il trapezio Magic Marine modificato con kit per gancio di sicurezza. Per gli altri equipaggi sembra non ci sia scampo.

I controlli di stazza filano stranamente lisci come l’olio (Fiat 10 W 40): durante il riarmo di Ita28685 contribuiamo alla distensione mondiale erogando precise informazioni ad una coppia di transalpini in difficolta’:

Ci salutano commossi, mentre con il cuore pieno di orgoglio Ita28685 scopre ancora una volta che e’ stata all’altezza… trenta secondi dopo, dalla terrazza dello Yacht Club Sanremo, dove stavamo consumando un pasto frugale (focaccia ligure e cornetto all’amarena) scopriamo che a 0,027 miglia nautiche (=50 metri) campeggiava sovrana una spiaggia con ombrelloni inquadrati come falangi spartane, con tanto di sabbia finissima e campo da Beach-volley.

Ci inventiamo una prova in acqua per evitare lo skipper meeting delle 17.00: tuttora (mezzanotte passata) il resto della flotta Snipe non sa ancora cosa gli incombe sopra.

Mi aveva asicurato di aver venduto la mia barca (visto che per questioni varie mancavo oramai dal circolo da gennaio e operativamente da uno snipe dal c. nazionale scorso). Invece no. ITA28685 era li', sporca ancora di salsedine e disarmata (nonché disarmante), ancora mia e della mia prodiera. E quindi c'e' toccato rimetterla a posto.

Ergo armati di CIF (tm) ci puliamo tutto lo scafo, dentro e fuori. Facciamo finta (fa molto figo) di rimisurare la barca, pare tornare tutto (non con gli assiomi bensì con i nostri valori precedentemente registrati sul quadernino).

Ci viene detto: "non uscite?" No, dopo tutta sta fatica.

La mia prodiera noche' coproprietaria e ah si' moglie, non puo' regatare per cui cerco e trovo un prodiere. L.F.
Alle 0930 di sabato siamo al circolo. Il nuovo circolo. Appena L. vede la barca cerca l'attacco del trapezio (e io mestamente cerco di dirgli prima di tutto che noi ce la possiamo fare anche senza e poi alla fine ammetto che NO. Lo Snipe nun cell'ha proprio). Cerco anche di nascondere i tentennamenti su dove devono passare alcune cime (alcune cosa erano diventate proprio tabula rasa).

Ok, nessun problema.
Impiego 3 minuti a spiegargli come si arma e circa 1 ora a spiegargli cosa potrebbe succedere di storto e dove. Alla fine della prima giornata ita28685 e' stata soprannominata da L. come la "Barca di Murphy". Non solo è successo tutto quello che gli ho spiegato sarebbe potuto succedere, ma anche tutte le altre cose che mi ero dimenticato sarebbero potute succedere.

Siamo tra i primi ad uscire per provare un po' di manovre. Le regate sono caratterizzate da poco vento la prima e un po' di piu' la seconda. Visto il nostro bel peso ci siamo trovati decisamente meglio alla seconda.

Il giorno dopo regata annullata per Buriana Totale. Groppo allucinante.

Inutile prendersi in giro. Chi ha gia' preso schiaffi del genere (e a mio parere pochi non ne hanno mai presi nella loro carriera velica) inconsciamente gia' sapeva che qualcosa del genere sarebbe potuto succedere. Ben prima dell'ammainata dell'intelligenza. Ben prima di arrivare sul campo di regata. Ben prima. C'era un nero sopra il nostro circolo che non preannunciava niente di buono. E l'instabilita' del vento era un altro messaggio chiaro. Ma l'adrenalina e la voglia di regata fanno (spesso) dimenticare i piu' elementari concetti di sicurezza in mare. E l'abbiamo pagata un po' tutti.

La foto in alto mostra la bugna del punto di scotta del nostro fiocco. Esplosa come anche la finestra della stessa vela. Il buchino poco vicino l'abbiamo creato per farci passare uno stroppo per tornare a casa. Grazie buchino.

Tutto si e' poi risolto per il meglio, un po' dispiaciuto per una M.P. infreddolita e Gabriella un pochino ammaccata. Un bacio a tutte e due.

Questo week end mi ha insegnato tante cose:

- che è bello salire su una barca con una persona con cui sai che dopo 3 minuti "è come se ci avessi regatato da sempre. Set."

- che era un po' troppo tempo che non sentivo il vento in faccia della bolina;

- che non sentire il vento in faccia della bolina non è un problema se ci sono cose piu' importanti da fare prima e per le quali avrei anche aspettato molto di piu';

- che c'è gente che ha il piacere di rivederti non solo perche' sei un'ulteriore barca iscritta alla regata;

segue un tentativo (auspicabilmente utile) di riassumere i punti essenziali riguardanti l'incipienterrima edizione di Vacanze Romane:

Il Bando di Regata, che faresti bene a leggere in ogni suo paragrafo, lo trovi clikkando qui!

Il sabbazzietto, rispetto all'anno scorso, ha cambiato sede, quindi se non ti vuoi andare ad incastrare per nulla nel budello di Vigna da Valle, e magari preferisci arrivare al circolo rapidamente ad iscriverti: clikka qui per scaricare le indicazioni e dai un'occhiata qui per avere una mappa..

L'inizio delle procedure di partenza della prima prova del sabato è previsto, come al solito, per le 14.00.. quindi se non sei tra quanti usciranno dal sabbazzietto: mettiti in acqua per tempo, magari anche qualche minuto prima della termica, no?!

Le istruzioni verranno consegnate all'atto dell'iscrizione, naturalmente!

Il costo dell'iscrizione (per gli snipe e per i dinghy) è esplicitato nel Bando di Regata.. che ti sei appena scaricato, vero?!

L'iscrizione comprende la cena per gli equipaggi (sabato sera).. "equipaggi" significa "quelli che fanno la regata", NON quelli che sono sposati/figli/parenti/amici di/con quelli che fanno la regata, naturalmente, per i quali (i non-regatanti) è necessario prenotare la cena all'atto dell'iscrizione.. è chiaro o serve un disegnino??

Per iscriversi servono le solite cose=FIV+Assicurazione barca+Iscrizione Classe+etc. (vedasi bando).

Per i dinghy varranno come Zonale sia le prove del sabato che della domenica.

Per gli snipe, come consolidata ed intelligente tradizione della Classe nella nostra Zona, varranno come Zonale SOLO le prove della domenica, nello specifico queste varranno anche per la Ranking List Nazionale.

Il t302 è perpetuo.. quindi inutile stare a dire se valga o meno.. l'unica cosa è che se ne potrebbe disputare una versione particolarmente estesa..

Note particolari:

per i parcheggi si prega di seguire le indicazioni fornite da chi starà lì non per divertimento ma per evitare casini, il classico velista-cafone che arriva e lascia l'auto in mezzo convinto di essere l'unico degno di iscriversi è figura sgraditissima.. ma magari i coregoni potrebbero apprezzarne le carni..

per chi si presenta da solo ad iscrivere duecento equipaggi: i documenti dovranno essere TUTTI in regola e completi, come per chi si iscrive in proprio, naturalmente..

PS. Il post regata di quelli di sabato potrebbe essere proprio quel genere di post regata che quando lo si perde e si scopre cosa sia stato.. ci si sta un pò male!

Pablo Cayado, el Director Deportivo del Club Náutico Recreativo de Sada nos informa que el pasado fin de semana el CN Recreativo de Sada celebró el “Trofeo del Carmen Cuca-Roga”, valedero para el “Circuito Optimist Rias Altas - Caixa Galicia”. Se trata de la 3ª prueba puntuable para el circuito, donde previamente se disputaron mangas en Coruña y Ferrol.

Las pruebas siguieron el plan previsto y dieron comienzo a las 15:00h frente a la bahía de Sada, donde se organizaron 3 recorridos diferentes para las flotas de Escuela-Regata (optimist) y multiclase (470, snipe y laser). Se dieron cita más de 30 embarcaciones procedentes del RCNC, CNR Ares, Montón de Ferrol, CD Miño y CN Recreativo Sada.

Los vientos moderados del norte y el mar de fondo hicieron peligrar la celebración de la prueba, pero finalmente el comité de regatas decidió seguir con el plan previsto realizando 4 mangas olímpicas y un recorrido costero. Los deportistas (desde los 8 años) demostraron sus habilidades y dieron un bonito espectáculo en la ría sadense. Las complicadas condiciones provocaron que se diesen varios abandonos y algunas roturas de aparejo en la flota multiclase.

Tras la celebración de la prueba se invitó a una cena de confraternización para regatistas en el Hotel Sada Marina, donde representantes de Caixa Galicia y el Alcalde de Sada hicieron entrega de los premios a los ganadores:

El  pasado domingo se celebró una jornada de convivencia en Sada, donde regatistas de los clubes participantes realizaron juegos en tierra, navegación conjunta, intercambio de tripulaciones y pruebas de nuevas disciplinas de navegación. Cerrando así un fin de semana de competiciones y convivencia entre jóvenes deportistas de las Rías Altas.

mentre sale verticalmente la temperatura in attesa della prossimissima Vacanze Romane (di fianco un nostro socio alla notizia di essere il solo a non aver lucidato la barca..) cominciano ad arrivare adesioni dall'orbe terracqueo e si ritira, purtroppo, la debordante tramontana che ieri ha spazzato il Lago e fatto sperare(*) in una edizione di Vacanze Romane molto "on the rocks"!

Anche perchè uno degli indiscussi pregi della nuova location sabbazziesca è che, a differenza della precedente, è possibile uscire anche con la tramontanona, senza dovere sostenere prima un test psico-attitudinale su toro-meccanico!

A margine di queste considerazioni di carattere generale va detto che gli ultimissimi dettagli sono in via di sistemazione.. anche se pare proprio che dovremo rinunciare all'eliporto..

..e che si va definendo, all'interno di Vacanze Romane, una tappa del t302 particolarmente "dura".. con alcuni equipaggi che, se confermati, potrebbero contribuire ad una t302evolution.. a breve se ne dovrebbe sapere di più.

Da ultimo FONDAMENTALE PER I FORESTIERI o per i LACUSTRI CHE DANNO TUTTO PER SCONTATO:

PS: la cena-festona dell'evento sarà NATURALMENTE sabato sera, pregasi dare una sfogliata al Bando di Regata..pare che ogni tanto aiuti, soprattutto a non presentarsi per la cena la sera sbagliata!

After the Dragon this year we watched as grenades were thrown at NAM founder and Dragon organizer, Mark Ferguson. Every time someone asks the "Cooper or an S?" question, an army of S-holes comes out to bash the Cooper. Some people are being suspended for their online behavior and there are reports of groups organizing ambushes on unsuspecting vendors. Almost like in the real Vietnam, you have to keep your head down to avoid getting sniped by enemies who pop up out of nowhere. Things were so bad that Ferguson recently was forced to establish new site guidelines and said the NAM forums had reached a new low.

What the hell is going on? When I first came to NAM about two years ago I was amazed at the community spirit and the kindness. Half the mods on MINIBee would not have been possible if it weren't for the complete strangers (and friends) who were always willing to help. I participated in the "pay it forward" attitude that used to prevail there and it made me a better person. And although I have many NAM friends, some whom I have not yet met, lately I have been considering getting email addresses from them and ditching NAM altogether. Consider this statement recently made by Mark Ferguson:

NAM was intended to be a community gathering place...not a place for people to come and bash those they don't like or agree with. I'll be taking actions to insure that we get back to that original intent. If you don't feel like you can be a part of a civil and friendly community its time to looking for a new home on the Internet.

Yes, Mark Ferguson makes money off the MINI community. So do a bunch of vendors who are also members of the community. Yes, the S is faster off-the-line than a Cooper. We can all read a spec sheet. Yes, some vendors have bad business practices and may even try to rip you off. Caveat emptor and welcome to capitalism. And yes, MOTD is a big event now and to be successful it needs some structure. It will never be the same as the grass-roots version it was in the beginning so if that's what you want, PM 20-30 of your best MINI friends and pick another weekend. The Dragon will be there.

Here's what we can all do to make NAM a better place...state your opinions, agree and disagree with passion but always show respect for others. And sometime soon take a deep, cleansing breath and ask yourself what you have to contribute to the MINI community. If all you can do is tear other people down, complain and bring negativity to each discussion, then you are creating VietNAM.

Join the cease fire. Pay it forward. Save the wave. A MINI is Mini is a MINI. All of that. Oh, and one more thing........

As the Chopper City Boyz gear up to release their second album: Life in the Concrete Jungle I reflect on what it could and should sound like.  I think Snipe and Gar are good rapper.  I think they COULD be some of the hottest rappers in the south and in the game.  I know them both personally and have heard alot of material from them.  Snipe has a vicious flow, rapid fire with the potential to be a good solid lyricist.  Gar is my favorite out of the two.  He's straight down the middle, uncut raw with alot of energy and passion.  I fucks with him.  What I want from the album is no holding back, great lyrics over great beats.  I think it'll be a decent album.  This album SHOULD be solid, I think it will be cool.

After a successful, but allegedly unprofitable career with Cash Money Records,B.G. turned heads by reinventing himself as part of another group comprised of his younger brother and his childhood friends. As the Chopper City Boyz, B.G., V.L. Mike, Hakim, Snipe and Gar released We Got This through a distribution deal with Koch. The album debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200and was hailed as one of the most successful independent albums of 2007.

Since their debut, a lot has changed for the Chopper City Boyz. Hakim (a.k.a.Hakizzle), still remains on good terms with his Chopper City family, but he is pursuing a career as a soloist. As the group prepares to release Life in the Concrete Jungle, their first effort through a joint venture with Asylum, Snipe and Gartook some time out to catch everyone up to speed on all the changes. Despite the crossover appeal of their lead single, "Bubblegum Muzik," which features Chopper City artist Lady Dolla, both members insist there will be no ringtone music on the album.

"We didn’t want to lighten it up, but we did want to attack the clubs and the females a little more," Snipe tells HipHopDX. Gar is in full agreement, adding, "We’re always going to have that street music...that gangsta music. But, at the same time, we wanna let the ladies know we’ve got something for them too."

A club single could surely lighten the mood for a city that still shows scars from Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, former member V.L. Mike was murdered in April, making him one of seven people slain during a violent four-day stretch. Snipe andGar remain optimistic, despite the fact that crime is causing more and more of New Orleans' artists to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

"[Mayor] Ray Nagin can only do so much and there’s a whole chain of command on that man," says Gar. "That situation comes from people who have a higher rank than Ray Nagin. He’s alright with me. Dude has done all he can do. I have two children and I know the way life is down here is not conducive to raising children."

Snipe takes a decidedly different approach to life in Crescent City adding, "I would never leave New Orleans [because] this is in my blood. The only way I could leave is if my mother was to leave. I ain’t going nowhere." They may be of two minds in terms of living in "The N.O.," but Snipe and Gar share the same plan as far as their city's signature sound is concerned.

"We’re gonna bring it back to the point where everybody is uniting," says Snipe."We’ve got a 27-city promotional tour coming up too." The group backs up their claim with a lengthy list of cameos for their upcoming album, which features fellow Louisiana natives C-Murder, Hurricane Chris, Skip of UTP, B.G., and former Cash Money artist Lac. Rocko, Alfamega and Blood Raw of USDA also make appearances. Life in the Concrete Jungle will be released on August 26.

..sarebbe errato credere che i preparativi riguardino "solo" l'organizzazione della regata ed il circolo.. naturalmente!

Come è prevedibile, dato il calendario, al sabbazzietto fervono gli ultimissimi preparativi in vista dell'edizione 2008 di Vacanze Romane, preparativi tutto sommato agevolati dal fatto che dopo una settimana di canicola è arrivata una domenica a dire poco.. meteomutevole.. insomma non adeguata a qualsivoglia attività velica.

A presto con le novità..mentre un'anticipazione la mettiamo da subito: si sta pensando di dotare le barche più.. "inattive" del circolo di un simpatico zombie-da-giardino (foto sotto), oggettino che va sostituendo i prosaici nani per i giardini d'Europa, e che riposto all'interno dello snipe di un ignaro snipista potrebbe procurare al medesimo snipista un leggerissimo stranguglione, così come solleva il telo..
