Gang Gang Dance-- the psychedelic Egypt-influenced drum boomers from Brooklyn-- have finally allowed the new single from their upcoming LP, Saint Dymphna, to slip from their fingers. The single, entitled "House Jam", was first revealed as a remix by xxxchange of Spank Rock; but now, anxious Gang Gang Dance fans (like me) can finally catch a listen of the real thing at fluxblog.

Indie dance record label Ed Banger released a mixtape earlier this month. After listening to it I concluded it is absolute shit. Seriously, it is total garbage. Considering the incredible rise of Justice and other acts like DJ Mehdi, Mr. Oizo, and SebastiAn, you would think they could release a better album. Hopefully none of these tracks are fresh because they sound like tracks they could have made back in the day when they were trying to get their foot in the door. There were only two songs I found to be mediocre at best; "Stress" by Justice probably due to I saw that amazing show, "Pocket Piano" by DJ Mehdi, and "Decalcomania" by So Me. Sorry but due to the letdown caused by listening to this album earlier today I am not going to post any songs to download. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day with new music to share. Peace and Beats.

Performers on both stages were on their game but while the big names-from Rakim to The Phaycyde to Tribe Called Quest to the Bay's own Blackalicious-rocked the packed main arena with the energy of old school heads proving they could still kick it, the hyperactive young guns on the second stage, including the Kidz in the Hall, Berkeley's The Pack, Spank Rock and Amanda Blake, buzzed over their pint sized audience like first graders after way too much sugar. Where do these kids get all that energy?

As the sun rolled down behind the hills of the amphitheater and headliners Tribe put the finishing touches on a satisfying old school set, the crowd was all smiles and hip swaying, secure that if the day's perfomances were any indication, hip hop's past and future were in good hands. Check the pics inside.-kwan

I was very fortunate to spend Saturday reliving Hip-Hop’s glory days at the ROCK THE BELLS festival. With 2008 marking the first year the ROCK THE BELLS festival will go global with four stops in Europe and one in Japan highlights of the festival include a return to the Glen Helen Pavilion in San Bernardino, CA where last year’s show sold out with a capacity crowd of 45,000 people. Although, I was back stage the entire show and was not able to enjoy the festival as a true fan due to the heat in San Bernardino, the performances I did catch were truly special. Not to mention, it was great being able to mix it up with old friends like Fat Lip (Pharcyde), Fuzzy (Los Angeles’s Power 106), Hen Gee (Ice-T), Herm & Jackie (Dub Magazine), Bri aka DJ 88 and be in the presence of others including will.I.AM (Black Eyed Peas), Rakim, and many more. As you can imagine my number one highlight was seeing NAS perform One Mic. If you love Hip-Hop and you are up to being Exposed to <del datetime="00">LIFE </del>Music this is a must see festival.

About the Festival

Rock The Bells is an annual hip hop festival that took place in California, until just recently when it was announced that the festival will travel to multiple locations. The first festival was held in 2004, and featured a re-united Wu-Tang Clan, who performed 4 months before Ol' Dirty Bastard's death. ROCK THE BELLS has established itself as a world-class hip-hop platform by hosting legendary performances. The 2007 festival series included performances by a reunited Rage Against the Machine, the Wu Tang Clan, Public Enemy celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band and many more. The tradition of top names and memorable performances continues in 2008 as the line-up and routing for this year's ROCK THE BELL 2008 International festival series powered by SanDisk included hip-hop all-stars A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Nas, Mos Def, Rakim, Method Man & Redman, Raekwon & Ghostface (Cuban Linx), Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Murs, Kidz In The Hall and the reunited The Pharcyde, and special guests. Fans will also see performances by the brightest names in the emerging electro-hip hop scene including Spank Rock, Santogold, Kid Sister, Wale, Jay Electronica and The Cool Kids with hosts B-Real of Cypress Hill and the world renowned Supernatural.

Oooh! A four-for-one here. This is because I only caught glimpses of them, but it was enough to either make an impression or make me want to check out more.

Brand New is a rock band out of Long Island that kind of reminds me of something like Linkin Park meets something Mark Hoppus could've orchestrated. The verses are smooth and harmonic, but the choruses are loud and rowdy. I really, really dig 'em. What I overheard of their live show makes me want more. They can really tear it up on songs like "Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows", but are perfectly capable of bringing it down with melodic ballad-like songs such as "Soco Amaretto Lime."

We overheard Okkervil River while we tooled around looking for beer, food and shade. These guys are folksy indie rockers out of Austin, Texas that I think I could get into once I heard more of them, but what we heard from a distance sounded pretty cool.

Spank Rock and DJ AM were pleasant surprises that we stumbled upon while making our way from the south to the north end of the park. Spank Rock was pretty cool, but DJ AM drew us all into the crowd with his mixed version of MIA's "Boys." (PS, MIA is hot, and that song is uber fun). Alex got some great pictures (I'll post 'em once/if he sends 'em to me!), and the crowd just ate it up. Great, great DJ (from someone that doesn't know a whole lot about DJs, I at least know this is one to check out).

Whose CD's will I buy? Brand New fo' sho'
Who will I see when they come back to Mpls? Brand New, absolutely. Okkervil River if they're opening for a band I've got on my "bands to see" list. As for the DJs? Probably not. I'm not much for the club scene, but if they made it to something of a show rather than just spinning at a local club, I'd be more interested.

So, it's Monday. Sanita spent all weekend at Lollapalooza and I spent my weekend in the fair city of Cleveland. I got to see Matt & Kim at my favorite Cleveland venue on Saturday, though, and that was a real treat. Now it's back to the week and back to work for some. Mondays don't mean much to me though, since I have no job and am not in school this summer. BUT, i'm sure all y'alls people out there who have things to do on Mondays will enjoy this little Spank Rock remix, sent to me by a dude named Leg-No in London. He even included a (remixed?) video! It's a fairly decent remix, not making me go cray-cray, but I'll let you decide.

I was rather pleased with the electronic/dance mix that I recently made for Steel Away. (It evolved from a rather ill-favored horror/trance mix called "Twitch of the Dance Nerve".) As I couldn't really post all the info on the rockin' dustcover (second only to my "Tales to Astonish!" mix cover for Liz) I am going to reproduce it here. Enjoy!

Shut the Club Down - Girl Talk

So, it has been a while. Anybody that put any faith in me probably has given up by now. I know all of you. You want a steady stream of content. New things to read and contemplate. Well contemplate this mothafuckas!

[audio http://ia311320.us.archive.org/2/items/GovernmentHousing/HouseStyleeMp3.mp3]

This is my new dj mix. Here is the list of songs I used:

Dj Blaqstarr - Hey MF's
Late of the Pier - Space and the Woods (the c90s Remix)
New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream (Herve Goes Bananas Remix)
ACDC - Thunderstruck (Tittsworth Remix)
Roisin Murphy - Overpowered (Herve Remix)
Crookers - My Penny
Boys Noise - My Head (Para One Remix)
Jamelia - Something About You (Crookers Crunky Remix)
The Count of Monte Cristal - Bounce That Ass
Spank Rock - Bump (Switch Remix)
Crookers - Aguas De Parco
Princess Superstar - Licky (Herve Goes Low Remix)
Liquid - Sweet Harmony (Streetlife Djs Mix)
Scotch - Penguin's Invasion (Hot Version)
Sinden and The Count of Monte Cristal - We Don't Give a Damn
South Rakkas Crew - Mad Again (Boy 8-Bit Remix)

Now I know what some of you might say: "Some of this music is from last year or (gasp!) two years ago." Well indeed that is true and some of it is from the 80's. Really I don't give a fuck. I just play music and try to come with the most compelling mixes possible with two record players and a mixer. Really the pleasure of djing for me (if you have not figured it out yet from previous posts) is the mixing of disparate styles. I think an older or even overplayed song can be elevated by creating a synthesis with another song. When I dj, rather than seeing it as an opportunity to show how in the know I am, I use it more as an excuse to make different mixes. It is easy to play one song after the other and make them mix in together but the way I see it, the songs are just links betwenn new mixes. I'm not trying to say I'm special. Just explain myself.

If you've been wondering why it's been a little quiet at The Ink Tanker as of late it's because we've been up to our eyeballs gearing up for the HARD Summer Music Festival, which took place July 19 [hey, sorry, but as we get older it takes a bit longer to bounce back]. Now, that the all-night rager has come and gone, we can now catch our breath and revel in the memories of a truly epic night.

The first-ever event was held at the Shrine Expo Hall in downtown L.A. and headlined by scorching sets from N*E*R*D and MSTRKRFT. Over the course of 7 hours, Spank Rock, Steve Aoki, Jason Bentley, Mr. White, Destructo, Felli Fel, LA Riots, DJ Momjeans, Squeak E. Clean, Kill the Noise and Miles Dyson performed unbelievable sets to thousands of dancing die-hards. Italy's The Bloody Beetroots closed out the bonanza with a full-throttle set that never let up from the first amped-up BPM until the clock struck 4 a.m. Meanwhile, Terry Kennedy and crew tore it up on the skate park throughout the night. We were blinded by the amount of bling in TK's mouth and had to wear sunglasses just to watch him rail slide...

A special thanks to Eric, Meghan, Reba, Bill and all the others at Bill Silva productions, everyone at the Shrine and all those who helped in any way to make this a huge success. We could not have done it without you.

Stay tuned for details about the HARD Haunted Mansion, coming Halloween night 2008.

Abaixo, mais um vídeo do Neon Neon tocando ao vivo 'I told her on Alderaan', no programa Culture Show da BBC.
