The under base coat which is normally white ink goes down first on dark colored shirts. Look at it like the primer on a wall before you paint the wall your desired color. I would say that 95% of all custom T-Shirts are printed on dark colored shirts.

The next thing that affects the per shirt cost is how many colors do you want to see on the front of the T-shirt. Also, how many colors do you wish to see in your design on the back of the T-Shirt. Each color is considered one screen. So, if a shirt has two visible colors on the front and three visible colors on the back then you have a total of five screens needed to make the shirt. If it's a dark shirt, add in the under base for each side. In this case the total number of screens needed to produce this shirt would be 5 visible colors plus two additional screens (front and back) for the under base coat. That's a total of 7 screens.

Art: Good silk screening printers have staff artists who help you design the artwork and this service normally is included in the price of the shirts. They like to use vector file and eps files from you if you have them available. Before you go ahead with your order, please have your artwork ready to be e-mailed to the printer.

Production Time: Any good established printer will have a production time of two weeks. If you run into a shop who can deliver your shirts in less time, this could be a tip off that they are not well known and possibly the quality might not be there. The best shops stay busy for a good reason. They are good at what they do and are in demand, be patient and plan your order. Sometimes a well known shop can produce your work sooner if you ask in advance. But the rule of thumb is give them at least two weeks.

Shirt Colors And Sizes: It always best to know what color shirts you want and the sizes. The sales rep can help you decide what is the best color shirt to use based on your art or budget. Try to have all your shirt sizes ready when you place your order. Shops have to order your blank T-Shirts from warehouses around the country. As always, plan early. Try not to have straggle add ons to your shirt order. Tell you company employees that you have a firm deadline for shirt orders and sizes and stick to the date with no exceptions. (See below reasons for making only one complete order of a particular design).

What do you sell that would appeal to the guys?
We sell lots of men's t-shirts and we also carry hoodies and something a bit unusual: hand silkscreened boxer briefs!

Where do you sell your stuff?

Since January of 2007

How did you get started?
Michael made a Motorhead t-shirt in grade 7 and had always wanted to do screen printing professionally (and using properly purchased images) and I had been in retail management and run an online business before, so it fit together nicely.

How do you get the word out about your shop?
Friends, family, blog ads, craft shows, the forums on Etsy, business cards, email signature, press releases, renewing items on Etsy frequently and wearing our shirts wherever we go are the main ways...

What's your creative process?
We both design. Michael enjoys printing more than I do, so he does most of that. We usually think of weird ideas but people seem to like the cute ones more, so we are leaning in that direction (but it is cool to be able to make anything you want really, even if it is just for yourself).

Once we chose/create the design we are ready to coat the screen and expose it. Gretchen specializes in ink color. She just gets a certain color combo in her head and *knows* when it is right!

What do you want people to know about your work?
There are *many* great screen printers around the world (a fave is http://circularaccessories.etsy.com). Our focus is on quality prints on premium shirts and excellent customer service. We really appreciate how lucky we are to be able to do this!
