Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog is now live. Act 1 was online (and on iTunes) on July 15th, Act 2 came out yesterday (July 17th), and the endcap Act 3 comes out tomorrow (July 19th)... all episodes are in the 13-minute range (40-ish minutes total). It features Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser, M.D.) and Nathan Fillion (Capt. Tightpants from Firefly / Serenity). It's great so far... I'm looking forward to how it turns out tomorrow...

Wil Wheaton likes it; so you know it's gotta be grood. I mean good... and great. It's a fun, musical romp a la Joss's Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More with Feeling musical episode.

VH1's annual celebration of rock music, The Rock Honors, features only one band this year. That band is The Who, and their Rock Honors program airs tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern on both VH1 and VH1 Classic. The program was recorded this past Saturday, July 12th, at Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, and it features performances by Pearl Jam, The Flaming Lips, The Foo Fighters, Incubus, Tenacious D, and The Who.

I'm pretty surprised that there are not any shows announced for Chicago or Cleveland. The Who have always done well in both cities. Perhaps those dates will be added to the tour in the near future.

I'm not sure what form The Who's Fall concerts will take. Since they did a large-scale tour to promote their 2006 album, Endless Wire, I'm guessing that these upcoming shows will feature The Who's greatest hits.

There are rumors that Townshend and Daltrey will perform again as The Who next year in a tour of the world's most famous opera houses to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of their so-called "rock opera" Tommy. Nothing has been confirmed about those shows yet. Watch this space . . .

Mike White, Richard Linklater and Jack Black are getting back together to make a sequel to School of Rock. This is fantastic news, and the story idea mentioned in the article sounds pretty solid and full of potential.

School of Rock is a combination of some of my favorite things - an ode to rock music, a showcase of amazing young musical talent and Jack Black at his best. When this came out, I thought it was one of the best movies of the year.

When my daughter was born, I sat around the house waiting for her to be old enough to see it. Figuring two was old enough, we put it on. Since then, we have School of Rock to thank for...

• random bursts of the "Immigrant Song" coming from the back of our car when we drive
• repeated plays of "Tribute" for two years running
• my daughter's interest in all music and her early desire to learn piano
• our shared desire to see Jack Black in nearly anything he produces
• her appreciation for music beyond The Wiggles (some of you have no idea the bullet that was dodged with this one)

White, Linklater and Black are a threesome in whom I have faith to deliver again, so I'm looking forward to it.

Dessa vez, em School of Rock 2: America Rocks, Dewey Finn (Black) leva um grupo de crianças em viagem pelos Estados Unidos, e durante o passeio ele tenta educá-los nos ensinamentos e mistérios do poder do rock n' roll.

Retornando para assumir a direção na seqüência é Richard Linklater, que também dirigiu os maravilhosos Waking Life e Antes do Amanhecer (e a seqüência Antes do Pôr-do-Sol). Além da dupla, o produtor Scott Rudin e Mike White, que além de estrelar junto com Black como Ned Schneebly, também escreveu o roteiro do primeiro filme. Esse será o quarto roteito que White escreve para Jack Black - os outros foram Nacho Libre (muito bom) e Orange County (nada a ver com a série incrivelmente horrível, por favor!)

Será que funciona de novo?

Pra falar a verdade, na época que assisti Escola do Rock não achei tão legal assim, mas sou fã de Jack Black e depois de Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny (terrivelmente traduzido no Brasil como Uma Dupla Infernal - mas o melhor filme dele na minha opinião), ele merece esse voto de confiança.

Kyle Gass announced that he and his brother-in-rock Jack Black are back in the studio and should have their new album out soon. But Gass also says they have a mere one and a half songs wrapped up for the LP. This could largely be due to Gass stating the album is slated to become a masterpiece, so please plan your year-end list accordingly.

"We'd like to do one final masterpiece. I think we both know we're approaching death, as it were, and we'd like to have a lasting legacy,” Gass told Billboard.

The album remains untitled and there is no confirmed release date.

"It might take the rest of our lives, but I think it'll be worth waiting for,” Gass says.

No word on when it'll be done or if Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl will help out on drums again.  I loved their debut.  The Pick of Destiny (movie) was good (even though it was cheesy).  The Pick of Destiny (album) was, well... too short and too much like a skit/trailer for the movie.

Here's hoping the 3rd is a return to form...

Kyle Gass spoke to Billboard.com and revealed the news that he and Jack are planning a new album. They want it to be a follow up to the movie soundtrack "The Pick of Destiny". But don't expect them to finish and release the new album anytime soon, they want to take their time with it and make it a really good one. They want to make the next one a hit.

These guys write a lot of songs about "cock sucking". The "Pick of Destiny" soundtrack is all about that really. Hope the next one will be different and they shouldn't overdo the "cock sucking" lyrics in the songs.

I enjoy Jack and Kyle, but they need to write about different stuff.

Again, I think the slow and simple melody suits a funeral environment. I mainly like the fact that this song has and always will sound so ironic to me. The slow tempo and simplicity would suggest anything but a 'perfect day', hence my reason for it coming in ay number 6.

Check it out: part of the film is set in El Dorado, and the plot involves the search for a bunch of bandits who have mysteriously disappeared.

In fact, the 1949 film starts with a lengthy prologue which lists these bandits: "Ace Dawson, Sam Milton, Luke Holden, John Rackim, Bill Drake, Kurt Dixon, and Sam Milton (again)" I wonder if these were the names of crew members, or friends of the writer.

We meet Charles wearing a different mask than we're accustomed to seeing him in -- he's an outlaw, robbing a stagecoach. He unshaven, dressed in dusty clothes, and tosses around some good tough guy lines like "Everyone in favor of staying alive, raise your hands."

It's all play acting, of course. He's Steve Carson, Texas Ranger, and he's committing a very public crime so he can go on the lam and find the underground railroad to "El Dorado".

These are my favorites, where Charley gets to play a bad guy. Partly because he's good at it, and partly because it provides a rare chance for Steve's adoption of the Durango Kid identity to make sense!

That said, Durango makes a very late appearance. Nearly 22 minutes into the film.

As we've discussed before, sometimes Smiley meets Steve during the action of the picture. In this, he already knows Steve. "I've known him from way back."

He doesn't know Steve's the Durango Kid, however. He asks Durango if he lives in a cave. In some footage shot when he was in his 80's (see blog entry "Charles Starrett's Last Public Appearence"), Charley talks about Durango hiding in a cave, "always ready!" Personally, I've seen Durango appear out of a lean-to, and from behind some rocks, but this is the first cave I've seen.

The action of the film takes us from Copper City down to El Dorado where Steve is trying to discover the boss of the operation providing the escape for these bandits. He's helped by his Texas Ranger Captain, in disguise, who is played by our old friend Fred Sears.

Smiley down there too, and in disguise as well.

When Steve finds out Smiley is in Mexico, he's bummed. "Aw, we're sunk. I can handle outlaws, but I can't handle that Smiley." Me neither. Not on a full stomach, I can't.

There's not alot of discussion of Ray Nazarro in these pages, despite the fact that he directed a lot of these films. He is a competent director and an adequate storyteller. And he does frame a nice shot from time to time, which he does here.

There's also a nicely staged fight scene in a darkened room.

The big stand-out in this film (other than the fact that there is not one woman in the entire film) is Mustard and Gravy. These two guys were a hillbilly music novelty act which Smiley brought into the fold. Imagine Tenacious D made up of two Kyle Gasses. They appear here dressed as wrestlers, as bullfighters and as black-faced minstrels.

We'll be seeing more of this duo in future films, so look for a more extended discussion on them then.

Oh, and Clayton Moore appears here in his last film before climbing onto Silver and donning a mask of his own.

Ya se que son dos posts seguidos de juegos de video, mi nivel de ñoñancia esta subiendo un poco, eso, o la neta encontré 2 juegos verdaderamente cabrones que merecen que les dedique tiempo, y no es para menos, Brutal Legends es un juego que de un día para otro se convirtió en el juego que mas espero este año, a continuación las razones.

Este juego esta siendo desarrollado por el cabron que nos trajo juegos como Maniac Mansión para el NES, y también la serie de Monkey Island para PC, estos juegos incluyen cantidades impresionantes de humor absurdo que te hace carcajear mas de una vez, por si fuera poco, en Brutal Legends tambien participan Jack Black (School Of Rock) y Lemmy Kilmister de la banda Motorhead, con esta combinación la neta no se puede perder.

Este juego es una aventura salvaje llena de Heavy Metal, en el trailer se ve como controlas a un hijo de puta (con cara de Jack Black XD) con un hacha que se encuentra pateando traseros a diestra y siniestra, con altas dosis de moronga en el camino, conociendo el humor que maneja Tim Schafer, este juego se va a convertir pronto en un titulo de culto.

Les recomiendo que le echen un ojo a este video, y si les laten los juegos cargados de humor y testosterona como todo buen macho que se respeta, prepárense y vayan ahorrando, lo mismo que se gastan en una peda pueden apoquinarlo para comprar este titulo en cuanto salga a la venta.

Si quieren ver mas de este juego píquenle aquí, esta en ingles y no pienso traducírselos, así es que si no entienden, se chingan cabrones, a ver si aprenden a hacerle caso a sus padres cuando les decían que pusieran atención en sus clases de ingles.

I 2002 hadde Dave Grohl deltatt på fire av årets viktigste og morsomste rockealbum. Men han var ikke den eneste i Foo Fighters som var utro mot bandet.

Han gjør det hver gang. Etter å ha stått vuggende og krumbøyd foran mikrofonen blir Dave Grohl lei av å stå alene på scenen. Midt i «Monkey Wrench» hopper han av scenen, gir noen «high fives» til fansen tett foran scenen og begir seg ut på vandring med gitaren. 15.000 elleville fans på Wembley Stadium i London hyler av begeistring når Grohl klatrer opp trappa, synger og spiller videre og håndhilse på en publikummer i rullestol. Så stiller han seg på toppen, skuer ut over massene og spiller videre. Det er like før du tror mannen skal «stagedive» ned i massene 20 meter nedenfor.

– Dave er som en hyperaktiv unge, sier bassist Nate Mendel.

Fire album
2002 har vært et hyperaktivt år for Grohl. Den tidligere Nirvana-trommisen fant fram stikkene igjen med Queens of the Stone Age og Tenacious D, og forhandlet seg fram til enighet med Courtney Love – noe som gjorde årets Nirvana-samler og neste års Nirvana-boks mulig. Og ikke minst: Han spilte inn Foo Fighters' fjerde album, One By One, to ganger – med Grohl foran mikrofonen igjen.

Men Grohl bremser ikke tempoet i 2003: Han har allerede spilt trommer på det nye albumet til Cat Power og spilt inn et metalalbum under navnet Probot. Og han er ikke den eneste i Foo Fighters med prosjekter på si. Gitarist Chris Shiflett har spilt inn en soloplate med gitarpop, trommis Taylor Hawkins samarbeider med Eric Avery fra Jane's Addiction og Mendel spiller inn et album med Fire Theft, sammen med de fleste av medlemmene fra hans gamle band Sunny Day Real Estate.

Sunny Day Real Estate debuterte i 1994, og opplevde sin storhetstid i år da rock 'n' roll ikke var like het på den kulturelle radaren. Nå ser Mendel med glede på at rock igjen er like populært som tidlig på 90-tallet.

– All medieoppmerksomheten og pengestrømmen rundt grunge-rock fikk scenen til å tørke ut, men nå er rock tilbake. Når det gjelder musikk finnes det ikke noe morsommere enn å høre rockeband. Du kan lettere identifisere deg med bandet, og se for deg selv spille det samme instrumentet. Slik har det vært siden 1950-tallet, men iblant blir folk lei og noe annet fanger interessen. Men folk kommer alltid tilbake.

- Avril er et produkt
Samtidig er det uunngåelig at de forsvinner igjen. Men det bekymrer ikke Mendel.

– Jeg tror det bare tar ett år før det store publikum og media igjen går lei rock. Men når vi snakker om ungdom, tror jeg det er bedre å vokse opp med rockeband som forbilder enn Britney Spears, boyband og technoband. Da skulle en tro Mendel synes Avril Lavigne er et bra forbilde, men nei. For han har hørt at den kanadiske ungjenta er like oppkonstruert som Britney.

– Hun spiller ikke gitar, for det kan hun ikke, sier han skråsikkert.

– Jeg har hørt dette fra noen som jobber i musikkindustrien: Avril skulle bli en ny popjente à la Britney Spears; sangene var ferdigskrevet, men selskapet visste ikke helt hvordan hun skulle markedsføres. Men plateselskapet hadde fått med seg at publikumspendelen svingte mot rock, og da fikk noen den lyse ideen om å kle Avril opp som punkejente og utstyre henne med slips og gitar, ifølge Mendel.

– Så remikset de plata og ga den et røffere lydbilde, kledde henne opp og sendte henne ut på kjøpesenter-turné. Og plutselig hadde de en fiks ferdig rock 'n' roll-jente. Det er ingenting i veien med Avril Lavigne, hun er bare fullstendig oppkonstruert basert på et innfall fra plateselskapet. Foo Fighters gjør bare det vi føler for. Noen ganger passer det inn i det musikalske klimaet, andre ganger ikke, avslutter Mendel. Og nå passer det musikalske klimaet godt til Foo.
