Top 10: New Music You Should Check Out

One of the perks of my job is getting to listen to preview copies of music. Today, thought I would share some new music that you should check out. So, the criteria for todays list is that the music has to be a new release or a new artist. I define new release as anything released in the last few months.

#10 Lanae' Hale. Lanae is a new artist that came in the store today. Currently, she has only released an EP but I really like what I've heard so far. You can check out her music here. Heard her in concert last week she is even better live. Really liked her cover of Coldplay's Fix You.

#9 What if We by Brandon Heath. Ok, I really haven't been much of a Brandon Heath fan but I do like this project. Five out of 11 songs got a 4 star rating (5 star possibles) from me. I tend to rate music pretty low especially from someone I don't really listen to. The downside on this one is that it does not release until August 19th. You can get a sneak peak of the CD if you go to Brandon's website.

#8 Make Some Noise by Krystal Meyers. Release date for the CD is September 9th. We have the preview copy in the store & this is going to be a good one. You can listen to a sample of it on her website.

#7 What Would Life Be Like by Big Daddy Weave. . We've been playing the preview copy in the store for a couple of weeks and I really like this one. This one to hit the streets this past Tuesday, July 22nd. My favorite tracks are Revive Us Again and From Here. Revive Us Again is a sentimental favorite. It is one of three hymns that remind me of my Granddad. Overall it is a very good project. Oh, We Want the World To Hear is also a good song.

#6 Love Will Rise by Mitch McVicker. The CD has been out for a few months but it is very good. Rich Mullins fans will probably recognize the McVicker's name. While his style is different from Mullins the depth of McVicker's lyrics are similar to Mullins.

#5 The Grafting by John Schlitt. The former lead singer for Petra has a new project out. It has been out for several months but it is very good. If you are Petra fan or just like something with a good rock sound check out The Grafting. On the quirky side the first printing of the CD (7,000 copies) has a mistake on the back cover, CD face and digitally. The songs are mislabeled. However they are correct on the lyrics. When I called our rep at Provident I was informed that only one other person had reported the error. Oh, BTW, the other person was Schlitt. The collector in me wants to get a 2nd copy of the CD & leave it unopened.

#4 Blood Certified by D. King. This was released last year but King is still a new artist. He has a lot of talent as a rapper and signer. He will be in concert with Da' T.R.U.T.H. and Flame on Friday, July 25 in Jacksonville. Editors Note: Just found out the concert was canceled.

#3 Vertical Expressions by II Guys From Petra. The debut acoustic release from John Schlitt & Bob Hartman is very good. It reminds me of Petra Praise 2. According to something I read, Hartman was asked to lead music for a youth retreat. While working on the music he asked Schlitt to join him. From there the guys decided it wouldn't be that hard to release a CD. When coming up with a name Schlitt suggested they just call themselves II Guys From Petra because whatever name they choose that would be what people called them.

#2 Master & Musician 30th Anniversary Edition by Phil Keaggy. Ok, this is not a new release at all. However, it is certainly one you need to check out. The 2 disc set includes the original release plus a disc with bonus materials. The bonus disc includes a commentary from Keaggy about the project. I did not realize how important this CD was or album when it was released in 1978. It was Keaggy's entry into the mainstream Christian market and his debut with Word Records.

#1 Revelation by Third Day. If you have read much of my blog you have probably learned that Third Day is my favorite band. Revelation may be their best release yet. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums. That would be a good topic for another day. You can pick up your copy Tuesday, July 29th.

Erick's Top 10 Movies Of All Time

So I'm having all the contributors here at moviereign list their top 10
favorite movies which you'll see in upcoming posts. I think it's important
because that way you as the reader will be able to better relate to a
certain contributor or contributors based on their movie taste. So when it
comes time for a review or opinion you'll be able to see what they think and
take their advice or leave. When I think of a favorite movie to me I don't
necessarily think about the actors, director or genre. The biggest thing
for me is the re-watchability factor. If a movie is really good but I can
only watch it once it doesn't belong in my top 10. The Patriot was a great
movie but it's not something I could watch over and over again and get
enjoyment out of it each time. So what you'll see below is a list of movies
that not only do I think kick ass! But, I can also watch over again and fn
love it each time. So here I go with my top 10 favorite movies of all time
counting down to 1 (1 being my favorite):

10) The Matrix - 1999 The Matrix came out... and at the same time ED t.v.
was out... remember that shit fest with Mathew
Mcgcgonnaheyuy(mic-con-uh-HEY!) I remember that because I had made a song
for it. I was in 8th grade I believe when it came out and my friends and I
were all a little fishnuken(drunk) and I started singing on the way to the
movies, "I wanna see the matrix, I wanna see the matrix, ed t.v. would be
good but Matrix even better cuz its got a lot of guns wooPAH wooPAH" now
sing it again twice as fast. So horribly cool I am for making that song.

9) X-Men - Seeing my favorite comic book heroes on the big screen for the
first time was awesome. I remember the line out the door of the movie
theater and how freaking pumped I was to go see that thing. I used to talk
for years prior to the release about how cool it would be to see them in the
movies and who should play who. And dammit if it wasn't fantastic to me. 1
and 2 were awesome to me... 3... obvious let down. But still fun
nevertheless.

8) Back To The Future 2 - Why not 1 and why not 3?... Well 1 was in the
past and 3 was a little off in time periods for my taste. But, 2 was the
future and I loved those awesome shoes that Marty wears and of course...
"Those don't work on Wada... Unless you got Powa!!!" The sweet sweet
invention that is a hover board made by Mattell. I asked for one of those
things every at christmas from santy clause and that son of a bitch never
got me one!

7) Mortal Kombat - Ok I know you're like "WHAT THE FUCK!" But seriously...
WTF! I could watch this movie once a week and love it. I can't explain to
you why... it's just one of my guilty pleasures that I have you know.
Everyone has one.

6) Dumb & Dumber - The best opening scenes and dialogue in a comedy that
I've ever seen. From Beginning to end I'm trying to learn the entire script
because there are so many one liners in that film that make it Jim Carrey
gold and Jeff Daniels perfection.

5) American Psycho - Christian Bale is my favorite actor today and If you
haven't seen this movie go rent it right now. It's almost spot on with the
book (more hilarious then the movie) which is so much more hardcore than the
movie. But the reason this is so good is because if you read the book which
I highly recommend and than watch the movie you see how Christian Bale
completely embodies Patrick Bateman.

4) The Big Lebowski - A comedy that embodies the perfect form of humor.
It's smart, raucous, no doubt superiorly entertaining, a laugh riot. I'm
going to Lebowksi Fest someday I promise.

3) Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi - The entire Star Wars mythos is
incredible. The entire universe is amazing and with the amount to media
there is with Star Wars (movies, books, video games, cartoons) you could
immerse yourself in the universe for about a year or so. Why "Return Of The
Jedi"? Because, now that I know the beginning of the story and the end it's
cool to see how everything wraps up at the end and try to see the
similarities and relationship with all the films and storyline.

2) The Dark Knight - Didn't think this movie could make it to my top 10
before seeing it. Not a whole bunch of newly released films have that
ability due to their lack of originality but DAMN if this movie isn't almost
perfect in every essence of it's being. When Ledger was on the screen I was
completely blown away and can just picture myself wanting to watch it almost
frequently when it comes to DVD.

1) Ghostbusters I - I absolutely love this movie. Ever since I was a kid I
can remember dressing up as a ghostbuster during halloween and went around
taking out imaginary ghosts with my plastic proton pack and foam particle
beam. In fact every year during halloween I try and find a suit that'll fit
me. I also try and get a proton pack from when I was a child but I can't
find any anywhere. This movie is just classic and I constantly repeat a ton
of lines from this movie not only that but it's got a killer soundtrack to
which I'm listening to Ghostbusters by Run D.M.C. Their version rocks hard
core ghost ass. Dig it!

Durante cerca de quatro meses, os visitantes desse blog votaram naqueles que consideravam os melhores filmes americanos num total de dez gêneros, todos baseados em listas pré-divulgadas pelo American Film Institute. Assim, foram escolhidos os melhores filmes do último século na série que teve sua última lista divulgada na semana passada. Abaixo, relembro todas as votações através de resultados comparativos com as listas oficiais, bem como apresento estatísticas e fatos curiosos (ou não) sobre essa série. Antes de mais nada, agradecimento especial ao Marfil, pois sem ele essa idéia não teria surgido em primeiro lugar (e claro, a todos que participaram ao menos comentando os resultados). Os comentários abaixo estão por ordem de divulgação das listas e escolhi meu preferido em cada seção.

12/04: Nossa seleção do gênero de Fantasia foi bastante diversificada e logo nessa primeira lista tivemos o filme mais recente na primeira colocação entre todas as votações. A Sociedade do Anel representou O Senhor dos Anéis como um clássico recente do gênero, sem esquecer de O Mágico de Oz (o segundo colocado) e do mestre Tim Burton com Edward Mãos de Tesoura - na terceira posição. Como é possível ver abaixo, em comparação com a lista oficial, foram apenas dois longas em comum (estão sublinhados):

19/04: Com uma lista de pré-selecionados polêmica, a lista das Comédias Românticas foi menos prestigiada do que a anterior, mas ainda assim teve um ótimo resultado com dois clássicos nas primeiras posições. Sendo um dos melhores cineastas do gênero, Woody Allen não poderia ficar de fora e venceu a eleição com Annie Hall, enquanto A Princesa e o Plebeu ficou na segunda colocação. Uma Linda Mulher fechou o pódio, ainda que não tenha aparecido na lista oficial do AFI - como é possível ver abaixo, foram três filmes em comum.

26/04: Considerada uma das melhores entre todas as listas (mesmo pela qualidade dos filmes escolhidos), o top 10 das produções de Gângster não poderia ter uma melhor seleção. Nas primeiras posições, três clássicos do gênero comandados por grandes diretores: O Poderoso Chefão (que recebeu o voto de todos), Pulp Fiction e Os Bons Companheiros. Também foi a primeira lista com mais semelhança com a votação oficial do American Film Institute (quatro filmes).

03/05: Entre todas as listas, apenas O Informante e Assim Caminha a Humanidade (Faroeste) foram os únicos primeiros colocados em nossa votação que não apareceram na seleção oficial do AFI. Realmente os clássicos de Drama de Tribunal mereceram esse reconhecimento, mas acredito que deveriam ter reservado um espaço para o trabalho excepcional de Michael Mann. Na segunda colocação, ficou uma surpresa, As Duas Faces de um Crime, enquanto o vencedor do Oscar Kramer vs. Kramer foi o terceiro mais votado da lista. Numa comparação, novamente foram quatro filmes iguais.

top 10 AFI: 1. O Sol é Para Todos; 2. 12 Homens e uma Sentença; 3. Kramer vs. Kramer; 4. O Veredicto; 5. Questão de Honra; 6. Testemunha de Acusação; 7. Anatomia de um Crime; 8. A Sangue Frio; 9. Um Grito no Escuro; 10. Julgamento em Nuremberg l escolha do blog: O Informante.

10/05: Nossa lista de Animação deu mais atenção a filmes recentes do gênero, incluindo três produções da Pixar, ao passo que a seleção do AFI privilegiou clássicos da Disney como Branca de Neve. De qualquer forma, O Rei Leão bateu dois longas digitais e alcançou a primeira posição em nosso ranking, seguido por Procurando Nemo (uma segunda posição surpreendente, mas merecida) e Toy Story. Na comparação, foram nada menos que sete filmes iguais (!), constituindo o melhor resultado entre todas as listas.

top 10 AFI oficial: 1. Branca de Neve e os Sete Anões; 2. Pinóquio; 3. Bambi; 4. O Rei Leão; 5. Fantasia; 6. Toy Story; 7. A Bela e a Fera; 8. Shrek; 9. Cinderela; 10. Procurando Nemo l escolha do blog: A Bela e a Fera.

10/05: Pela primeira vez, o primeiro colocado da votação do blog e da lista oficial do AFI foi o mesmo, provando que Um Corpo que Cai é mesmo o grande clássico do gênero de Mistério. E assim como no top 10 do AFI, outros trabalhos do mestre Alfred Hitchcok foram lembrados na lista, incluindo o segundo colocado Janela Indiscreta. Para fechar o pódio, nada melhor que um filme recente que realmente mereceu esse reconhecimento surpreendente: Amnésia. Numa comparação, foram seis filmes iguais, um belo resultado.

top 10 AFI oficial: 1. Um Corpo que Cai; 2. Chinatown; 3. Janela Indiscreta; 4. Laura; 5. O Terceiro Homem; 6. O Falcão Maltês; 7. Intriga Internacional; 8. Veludo Azul; 9. Disque M Para Matar; 10. Os Suspeitos l escolha do blog: Janela Indiscreta.

28/06: Sem dúvida foi complicado escolher os melhores filmes americanos de Esporte, uma vez que não somos muito familiarizados com esse estilo de longa. Felizmente, um dos melhores trabalhos de Martin Scorsese foi escolhido para a primeira posição (coincidindo com a lista do Instituto). Touro Indomável recebeu votos de todos os participantes, seguido por outras duas produções cujo boxe é o tema principall: Menina de Ouro e Rocky. Comparando com a seleção oficial, foram apenas três longas em comum.

top 10 AFI oficial: 1. Touro Indomável; 2. Rocky - Um Lutador; 3. Ídolo, Amante e Herói; 4. Momentos Decisivos; 5. Sorte no Amor; 6. Desafio à Corrupção; 7. Clube dos Pilantras; 8. Correndo Pela Vitória; 9. A Mocidade é Assim Mesmo; 10. Jerry Maguire l escolha do blog: Touro Indomável.

05/07: Ainda que tenha ficado apenas na quarta posição na lista oficial, ...E o Vento Levou foi o preferido dos votantes no blog no top 10 do gênero Épico. De qualquer forma, tivemos uma grande semelhança nas três primeiras posições, com A Lista de Schindler e Ben-Hur no pódio. Mesmo com algumas inconsistências na seleção de pré-finalistas (incluindo filmes que particularmente não pertencem ao gênero em questão), essa foi uma das melhores listas, com seis filmes em comum com o top 10 oficial.

12/07: Incrivelmente nosso primeiro colocado (que foi Assim Caminha a Humanidade) ficou de fora na lista oficial do AFI, talvez porque não seja propriamente um filme de Faroeste - entretanto, como estava entre os pré-selecionados, merecia ser lembrado. Ainda assim, o preferido do Instituto (Rastros de Ódio) apareceu em quarto no top 10 do blog, um pouco atrás de Meu Ódio Será Sua Herança e Os Imperdoáveis. Na comparação entre as duas listas, foram apenas três longas em comum, na votação com menor número de participantes.

19/07: Nessa que foi considerada a melhor lista por boa parte dos votantes, 2001: Uma Odisséia no Espaço encerrou a série na primeira posição no gênero de Ficção Científica. Outro clássico de Stanley Kubrick ficou com o vice, Laranja Mecânica, ao passo que um dos quatro filmes (!) de Steven Spielberg no top 10 fechou o pódio (E.T. - O Extraterrestre). Na comparação com a lista oficial, foram quatro longas em comum, e posso dizer com toda certeza que a seleção do blog está bem melhor!

- 10 fatos curiosos (ou não) sobre a série top 10 AFI -

• Al Pacino e Robert De Niro aparecem com três filmes cada na lista do gênero de Gângster (incluindo O Poderoso Chefão - Parte II), o que constitui o recorde dessa série;

• Steven Spielberg tem dois recordes: foi o diretor como mais filmes entre todas as listas (seis), bem como foi o que teve maior número de longas numa única votação, em Ficção Científica: E.T. - O Extraterrestre, A.I. - Inteligência Artificial, Contatos Imediatos do Terceiro Grau e Jurassic Park;

• Stanley Kubrick e Alfred Hitchcock tiveram dois de seus filmes nas primeiras posições em uma lista: Kubrick com 2001 e Laranja Mecânica entre as Ficções Científicas e Hitchcock com Um Corpo que Cai e Janela Indiscreta entre os longas de Mistério;

• 2001 e Laranja Mecânica foram os filmes com maior número de votos entre todas as listas (18, cada, Ficção Científica), seguidos por O Poderoso Chefão e O Rei Leão (17, entre os filmes de Gângster e Animação, respectivamente);

• O Poderoso Chefão tem o recorde de primeiras posições (desempates) entre os votantes, uma vez que 13 de 17 participantes o escolheram como melhor filme de Gângster do último século. • Meu Ódio Será Sua Herança (segundo colocado na votação de Faroeste) foi o filme que conseguiu uma melhor posição mesmo sem ser o preferido da lista de nenhum votante;

• A Sociedade do Anel (2001) é o filme mais recente a liderar alguma lista (Fantasia), mas Filhos da Esperança (Ficção) e Os Infiltrados (Gângster), ambos de 2006, são os mais recentes a ocupar qualquer posição. • Minority Report foi o filme com o maior número de votos ao não entrar em algum top 10 (dez no total, entre as Ficções Científicas), seguido por Era uma Vez na América (oito, no gênero de Gângster);

• Kamila Azevedo foi a única a votar em todas as listas, seguida por Cristiano Siqueira (nove votações) e Weiner Gomes (oito). De qualquer forma, agradeço a todos que acompanharam essa série, votando ou não.

I knew… I just fucking knew it!!!!!
Once I started this list I knew that a post would suddenly get popular and change the order of things. And sure enough it happened. Volume #14 of the demotivational poster series has taken in enough hits over the past two days to jump from number 11 to number 10 on our list. And I’m not talking by just one or two hits, it’s a lot. So now, to be fair to all that work here, I must add this one in as a 10a or honorable mention or THE ONE POST THAT FUCKED UP THE ENTIRE COUNTDOWN!!!!!

The demotivational poster series has made me what I am today. The forth most powerful "man" on the Internet. I said "man", because we all know that the Internet is run by "men", otherwise it would be full of websites on Laundry tips, soap opera's, hair curler instructions and PMS advise.
This 12th version of the series focused on cultural differences and social issues that face our county today…………………………BAH HA HA HA HA…. Whew, I almost got through that with a straight face. But seriously, it’s pretty much full of the same old fart jokes and racist comments that have made us famous.

Burt Bacharach, composer, arranger, director, piano, vocals (b. 12 May, 1928, Kansas City, Missouri, USA).

One of the major songwriters of the Twentieth Century. Bacharach's sophisticated, but easily memorable, melodies and sun-drenched arrangements define the 1960s as perfectly as anything by the Beatles.

Though Bacharach had a distinctly classical musical education - Martinu, Cowell and Milhaud were among his teachers - his allegiance was always with pop and jazz rather than the concert hall. Following spells working as an accompanist for Vic Damone and Marlene Dietrich his song writing abilities won him chart success in the USA.

Bacharach's first impact on the British singles chart was with Michael Holliday's cover version of "Story of My Life". This success was cemented with "Magic Moments" by Perry Como. Both these songs were co-written with lyricist Hal David who became his regular song-writing partner.

Together they provided a stream of hits for many US artists, notably Dionne Warwick who worked with them so frequently she was almost a member of the team. Many of these records got into the British charts, but there were classy covers too, by Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield and Sandie Shaw.

The title Hit Maker! says it all and the album includes; "Don't Make Me Over", "Walk on By" (both originally recorded by Dionne Warwick), "Always Something There to Remind Me" (Warwick, covered by Sandie Shaw), "24 Hours From Tulsa" (Gene Pitney) and "Anyone Who Had a Heart" (Warwick covered by Cilla Black). Though his own hit single "Trains and Boats and Planes" is included, Hit Maker! is a compilation of greatest hits, only performed by the composer instead of the singers normally associated with them. Even though vocals are missing the songs benefit from his further thoughts on their arrangements.

During the decade Burt Bacharach also added his signature sound to movies and TV shows including What's New Pussycat, Casino Royale and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. His score for Butch Cassidy... won Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Song ("Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head") plus a Golden Globe.

10 Things You Should Never Do When Being Interviewed

Everyone knows that going on a job interview can be a frightening experience. Because let’s face it: being judged and stacked up against your peers can be nerve-wracking. One way to make this easier on yourself is to memorize the things that should always be kept at home when going on an interview. With that said here are the top ten things not to when in this situation.

1. “Poor handshake: The three-second handshake that starts the interview is your first opportunity to create a great impression. But all too often an interview is blown right from the start by an ineffective handshake. Once you've delivered a poor handshake, it's nearly impossible to recover your efforts to build rapport. Here are some examples:
• The Limp Hand (or "dead fish"): Gives the impression of disinterest or weakness
• The Tips of the Fingers: Shows lack of ability to engage.
• The Arm Pump: Sincerity is questionable, much like an overly aggressive salesman.
Even if you're a seasoned professional, don't assume you have avoided these pitfalls. Your handshake may be telling more about you than you know. Ask for honest critiques from several friends who aren't afraid to tell you the truth.”

2. “Talking too much: In my recruiting days, I abhorred over-talkative candidates. So did most of my client employers. Over-talking takes a couple of forms:
• Taking too long to answer direct questions. The impression: This candidate just can't get to the point.
• Nervous talkers. The impression: This candidate is covering up something or is outright lying.
To avoid either of these forms of over-talking, practice answering questions in a direct manner. Avoid nervous talking by preparing for your interview with role-play.”

I just read Time's article called "The Top 10 Books of All Time" on their website. I'm always wondering what to read next, so I resort to articles like this to help me decide what's best. But really my tastes are probably different than some suit journalist in a high-rise office in New York City, right?

That's why we're going to make a "Colbyintheraw's Top 10 Books of All Time." If you're reading this, you're invited to submit your top 10 list, either by leaving a comment or emailing it to colbywilliams1@gmail.com. Please do not include the Bible or the Koran or the Torah or any other equivalent. I know these are very important to you and your religion, and you can write about it on Facebook all you want, but it's not fair to humans if God is in the competition. Anything else goes - novels, biographies, histories, poetry, plays, etc.

I'll compile the results, and we'll see who stands tall among normal people. I'm even going to laminate the list and keep it on my fridge. The deadline is August 9th!

This is our most popular mad lib to date. And why not, it was our Christmas special mad lib. There is nothing better to do on a cold winter evening than to set down with the kids and read an altered version of “The Night before Christmas”. Especially when that version uses terms like, “anal leakage” “gay rape” and “crack whore”. Golly I’m starting to get that warm X-mas glow just thinking about it. Of course we here at HL did not get any toys last Christmas after posting this… Maybe Santa was sick. From some of the photos that associated this post, I could believe that.

Google is UK's top brand

Google has been named as the UK's top consumer brand in a recent survey commissioned by the Superbrands Council. Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the Superbrands Council said that "it is clear that Google is the brand that people value at work and in their personal lives."

The Superbrands Council compiled a list of more than 1,000 brands according to quality, reliability and distinctiveness, which were passed on 2,200 consumers to rate.

The top 10 were as follows:

1. Google

2. Microsoft

3. Mercedes-Benz

4. BBC

5. British Airways

6. Royal Doulton

7. BMW

8. Bosch

9. Nike

10. Sony

Interestingly, not one supermarket made it into the top 100. Compared to the 2007 survey, Asda dropped 253 places, Tesco 230 and Sainsbury's 194 places. Confidence has obviously been lost through rising food prices, and it is likely that as these continue to rise, supermarkets will come under further scrutiny. However, it wasn't bad news for all supermarkets, as Marks & Spencer was voted into the top 20.

Where do I begin? My guess is to start at the beginning, but I like the end much more. Ergo, I will begin with the end.
I feel like me! After only a week of recovery, I feel like me! What does “me” feel like? Can’t really explain that one, but it’s good nonetheless.
What have I learned through this experience? Well…here’s my growing catalog of thoughts:

Even though the bathroom is just across the hall, it can never be close enough.
Even though they’re expensive, shiny and turn everyone’s head, Ambulance rides are so overrated.
Once you’re in the ER, dignity is one of the things that gets tossed in the “personal belongings” bag.
Orange jell-o tastes like Orange Glow cleaner. Thank you, Billy Mays, but your recipe sucks.
Visitors feel like sunshine.
My kittens can seriously sense injury...but they also like to eat flowers, only to up-chuck the pretty petals moments later. nice.
My dad was right - chicken noodle soup really is Jewish Penicillin.
To feel the prayers of people around the world is like putting all wonderfulness together and giving it a big hug.
Laughter - if I could bottle it up, I'd make millions!

Along the way there have been points where major advanced have taken place, and the resulting computers have revolutionized the field. The Top 10 Animated Films Ever Made

When you start naming "Top 10" anythings, you're bound to ruffle some feathers. Which I think is cool. I love this kind of conversation, so feel free to leave comments. Believe me, it was hard for me to not just list every Pixar film that's come down the line because those guys can do no wrong (except Cars...I'm just not redneck enough to get into a movie about Nascar).

And this is probably one of the only "Top Animated Films" lists that won't include Snow White or Bambi. I'm sorry. Just because something is old, or "the first", it doesn't make it good. Or interesting. In my less-than-humble opinion, Snow White is one of the most overrated, boring films to come down the pike. But Ed, you might say, It was a technological breakthrough in animation. It was the first of its kind. Yea, well, just because something is different doesn't mean its good. Just ask Paris Hilton's parents.

So here we go. The best in animation, according to me....

10. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
There is a moment in this film that always blows me away. Jack Skellington has gone off to become the new and improved Santa Claus and his #1 fan Sally is home lamenting because she knows something's not right. While Sally is singing her ballad she steps through a gate and swings her head to the side. That moment right there is so smooth...so perfect...it's almost hard for me not to believe it's not a person in a big Sally costume. And there's also the Oogie Boogie song.

9. Flushed Away
I'll admit it. I haven't liked anything else this guy has done. And yes, that includes the Wallace and Gromit series. So my expectations for this were pretty low. Not only did this movie blow me out of the water, it also made Kate Winslet more attractive. The fun action peppered with jabs at America (and the UK) cracked me up. This movie probably would have ranked higher on my list if the characters didn't look so much like those Wallace and Gromit idiots.

8. The Prince of Egypt
Like The Nightmare Before Christmas, there's one scene in this film that sticks in my head, but with a much larger emotional attachment. It comes at the climax of the film when Moses parts the Red Sea. That whole scene...the animation as the water rushes into the sky, the swelling music...and then the eerie silence...it gives me chills just writing about it and gets my heart beating like Ed Grimley in the presence of Pat Sajak.

7. The Emporer's New Groove
How is this cartoon not more popular than it is? Hey, I'm not the biggest David Spade fan either, but when he's on, he's on. And in this film, he's on. Emporer's plays like a Disney film done by the kids of the filmmakers: sick and tired of the schmaltz and cheese, they're gonna show us that cartoons can be sarcastic, too. A cartoon that knows it's a cartoon and says What the heck. Let's just have fun with this one.

6. The Simpsons Movie
Admit it. You were just as shocked into hysterical laughter as I was to see Bart's junk.

5. Shrek
I can still remember thinking to myself Cartoons aren't supposed to be this irreverently funny while I was in the theater holding my side trying to stop laughing so I could hear the next joke. Like The Emporer's New Groove, Shrek takes the world of children's stories and pokes it in the eye as it dumps ice cubes down its shirt.

4. The Incredibles
Are you kidding me? Superheroes more believable than their Marvel or DC cousins, an amazingly animated landscape, harrowing action (it's hard to beat that jungle chase scene), all delicately painted around a couple struggling to keep their marriage together...wow. Well done, Pixar.

3. Aladdin
Just the fact that the animators were able to keep up with Robin Williams' mile-a-minute freestyle is a feat in itself. Disney loves putting our heroes in a spot where you think There's no way they can get out of this. But when I watched this, I remember saying OK really, there's no way he's getting out of this one. One of these good guys is gonna die.

2. Finding Nemo
Man, when things come together at Pixar, they really come together, don't they? Everything from the casting down to the most intricate detail in a random air bubble was spot on. This is one of the few films you could pop into your player, press pause at any spot and the image frozen on your screen will be the very essence of art. You'd just look at it and say Wow. That's beautiful. And hey, any film that is clever enough to incorporate the old Monty Python "Bruce" sketch gets extra credit.

1. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Only Steven Spielberg would be able to get Warner Brothers and Disney to shake hands and agree to let their greatest cartoon characters appear side by side in the name of good moviemaking. Considering this was done before the computer animation technology we have today, it's amazing how they got this film to work.
Yes, those are actual guns and beer bottles floating around in the air, not CG recreations, and the way they orchestrated the chaos in the Ink & Paint Club is beyond me. Roger Rabbit is a movie that loves movies and is a love letter to an era that may be gone but won't soon be forgotten.

Yay for cartoons.
