Mass Effect is the newest game from the KOTOR company, Bioware Studios. This game is a great game because it has amazing graphics and audio (voice acting and music alike.) The storyline for this game is very well done and it pulls you in and always wondering what is going to happen. Dialogue options can leave you doing many different things in different situations while on your missions. This game is a very long game with tons of quests and side missions that will keep you busy for hours. However, there are some interface issues and the vehicle control could use some improvements. Overall, this is a very fun game and if you liked Knights of the Old Republic, you should try this game out.

Metal music is top of the charts once again! Slipknot's new CD "All Hope is Gone" was number one this week. Which is awesome and deserved. Slipknot rocks, the new cd rocks. I've already developed several song obsessions (Dead Memories, Snuff).

Also like to wish my good friend Seth a very public Happy Birthday.

I'm finally catching up with the kids. My x-Box 360 is en route, and as soon as everything is ready I'll share my gamertag and games you can join me in. Just take it easy on me, my pride is fragile. Definately excited to finally play such hailed titles as Mass Affect and Halo 3.

Rock on,

Rating: 9.5 Out of 10

Halo 3 has finally arrived for the X-Box 360 and it doesn't disappoint. This game has 4 player online or offline coop, a great storyline which give you some closure of the trilogy, and a forge map editor that lets you design your own games. Also, there is web integration that lets you download screens, games, files, maps, and videos of people's achievements or creations. However, the rewind function on Forge isn't what you think it is and the AI still isn't that good at driving. Overall, this is a very fun experience offline and online, making you want more.

The developers of break-out hit Alien Hominid, The Behemoth, have done it again with a cartoonish title full of blood and violence. Castle Crashers is an old-school arcade brawler with RPG elements that is fun to play as much for its vibrant delivery as it is for its game play.

The story is no more complicated than it needs to be: bad guys have taken something from the king and you, as a brave knight-errant, must take it back. There are four characters to choose from at the onset of your adventure, and while it may seem that you are essentially just picking your favorite color (the only noticeable difference is the color of your knight's armor), each of the four characters uses a different form of magic (the orange knight uses fire while the blue knight uses ice, for example). Additional characters are unlocked as you progress.

Combat can be as deep or as shallow as you wish for it to be. Simple button mashing will get most players through the game, but use of the combos your character learns as they progress will make handling enemies much easier. Each character also has four attributes that can be modified as they gain experience points, making for more unique experiences depending on how you want to play. It's possible to make a variety of RPG character types (damage-dealer, magic-user, tank, or ranged fighter) or any combination thereof.

As far as combat and leveling goes, honestly, you have played this game before; that does not make it any less fun, just not as original. What separates Castle Crashers from other RPG-flavored action titles is its presentation. Everything is drawn in bright, bold colors with screen-hogging enemies and fluid animation. Each character--from the stalwart knights that serve as the heroes of the story to the rampaging barbarians that serve as the foes--is brimming with personality; and the juxtaposition of cartoony cuteness with the violent imagery of severed heads and disemboweled entrails makes for a sort of humor that is both over-the-top and subtle at the same time.

Up to four players can co-op online in any of the game's modes (the story mode, an all-out brawl in the "Arena", or the button-mashing mini-game "All You Can Quaff"), though there is some connectivity problems that The Behemoth is trying to address. Even without going online, however, Castle Crashers is a fun experience to be had. RPG fans wil enjoy customizing their character, the action is fast and rewarding, and the excellent delivery makes this a game that is just as much fun to watch as it is to play. While there are some control issues (it's hard to make your character do exactly what you want him to do sometimes), it's still a great game well worth Microsoft points.

Three totally unrelated things:

Tonight I went to my first Canadian university football game - one of the guys from our church plays for Waterloo and they were facing the University of Toronto. U of T had lost 49 straight games (yes, you are reading that right) dating back to 2001... and tonight they won on a field goal with less than a minute left! I guess they had to win sometime - I just felt bad for Marv that it came against Waterloo. Marv played well though (he told me he was rusty).

For my birthday I got an X-box 360... I haven't had much time to play yet because of vacation and today I got on Live for the first time with some of the guys from my church (Call of Duty 4). I'm terrible (I really think I dragged the team down) but it was so much fun.

Finally, my sport has always been basketball (mind you, recently soccer has been catching up). I read a little while ago about Mike Miller's shooting routine. I think sometimes we can forget how amazingly good these guys are. Ending your workout with 36 straight NBA 3's?

Lucasarts released the demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed last week. Considering that this is one of fall's most anticipated releases, I'm sure that it will see a good deal of traffic; I wouldn't be surprised if pulled a Too Human and made the X-Box Live top ten.

For those not in the know, The Force Unleashed is set in between the last film of the prequel trilogy and the first Star Wars movie (does anybody even care about where things fit in the Star Wars canon anymore?) and features, as the player-character, an apprentice that Darth Vader kept secret from the Emperor; this apprentice handled Vader's dirty work, eliminating the last few Jedi that escaped Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith.

The focus of the game is on using the Force as a weapon. This is a departure from past Star Wars games wherein the Force was a supplemental weapon (and sometimes, not a weapon at all, but more of a defensive tool). Vader's apprentice can send out a concentrated blast of energy, lift objects and enemies and throw them through the air, gain a burst of speed, hurl his saber at distant foes, and create lightning. All of the awesome things the Jedi and Sith did in the movie are now at your command. Plus, if I'm reading the subtitles correct, he has the most awesome codename ever: Starkiller.

I played the demo, and as excited about the game to begin with I'm even more excited now. The game uses the Havok physics engine, and it makes for some beautiful game play. Watching bodies rag-doll through the air and slam into heavy structures or go flying off into the void is supremely satisfying, and as you experiment with the various Force powers it only gets sweeter. Starkiller is not limited to what he can lift, as I found out when I sent a TIE fighter zipping towards a squad of stormtroopers; that made for a glorious, screen-filling explosion.

Combat is kept fresh by not only what Starkiller can send flying at his enemies (indeed, where he can send hs enemies flying), but his melee options as well. While the Force powers are the star of the show, your character still has plenty of lightsaber combos that are silky-smooth in their responsiveness and empowering in their display. Whether charging his lightsaber with lightning, impaling an airborne enemy on his blade, or--my personal favorite--severing a stormtrooper's spine with a cruel, hard-hitting finishing move, Starkiller fights like the force of evil he is supposed to be.

The only problem I ran into was the game's targeting system. It's sometimes hard to pinpoint exactly what you want to use your Force powers on. However, there is a target lock button one can make use of; it's just getting your target lined up that can cause some stress.

The graphics look great and--as always with the Star Wars games--the music and sound are superb. Everything has a watery flow to it. It's just too bad that the demo was so short (in fact, it has taken me longer to write this than it did to play through the demo). It definitely left me wanting more. I can't wait to get my hands on it when it's released in just over two weeks.

I had been waiting for quite some time to play Too Human, the X-Box 360 game that is known more, per

I had been waiting for quite some time to play Too Human, the X-Box 360 game that is known more, perhaps, for being in development for a decade than for its gameplay; and its legacy, I'm afraid, will be as a mixed-reviewed game that didn't live up quite to the hype. The mainstream gaming press have not been kind to this title, seeing it as a game with so much potential wasted. I humbly disagree with the mainstream gaming press, as I have so many times before (Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect were not the second coming of the Gaming Messiah). Too Human is not the best game of the year, but it has enough depth and variety to fill countless hours of game play, and its story--a science-fiction spin on Norse mythology that tells the story of the young god Baldur as Ragnarok looms on the horizon--is engaging if not a bit thin.

The much-heralded fusion of action game play with role-playing elements is a seamless blend of the instant gratification one gets from plowing through swarms of enemies and the satisfaction one feels when they see their once-weak character growing into a walking war machine. In so many RPGs, either traditional or more action-based, the game starts out hard and gets easier as your character grows more powerful; in Too Human, enemies scale to your level and more powerful items are available as you advance. So while your weapons and armor (highly customizable thanks to the game's "rune" system) more than balance the odds in your favor, enemies can stand toe-to-toe with you when it comes to sheer fighting skill, demanding more from the gamer while still empowering them; however, thanks to the incredibly deep skill trees available for the game's five classes, skilled gamers can endlessly tweak their character build and will have no problem making scrap out of the screen-filling enemy packs with whom Baldur does combat.

All of the carnage is presented grandly, with breathtaking visuals of extraordinary detail. High-ceiling rooms, wide vistas, and towering statues create an epic feel for the settings, giving the impression of the technologically advanced society in which the game takes place. Every setting feels alive--even the eerily-quiet cyberspace--and there are more than a few moments that will send chills down the spine of gamers-from the first moment a robotic troll crawls out from under a pile of wreckage to the frightening silhouette of a great dragon gliding underneath a crystal lake to the twisted, soulless halls of Helheim. Too Human may not win any awards for game play, but I fail to see how any game, even Grand Theft Auto IV, can outshine this game when it comes to graphical detail and aesthetics. Each of the five classes (the damage dealing Berzkerker, the armored Defender, the long-range fighting Commando, the Bio-Engineer with healing abilities, and the well-rounded Champion) feel unique, and nobody will have the same experience with their first playthrough.

As much as Too Human does well, there are things it does poorly, however. This is the first game with any kind of RPG elements that I have ever played that does not allow any power-ups or character abilities to self-heal, save for the class dedicated to healing. There are health orb pick-ups, but there is nothing that the gamer can access to boost their health when they really, really need it: such as after a long, exhausting battle or right before (or in the middle of) a boss encounter. Granted, there is no strict penalty for dying (which, in turn, makes many of the more difficult battles more a test of patience than skill), but there is no telling how much game play time was wasted simply because I kept dying. The game's story is grand and rather well done, but it could use more fleshing out. True, I'm of the school that games should be games first and story-telling mediums second, but if you're going to try something--well, we all know how Yoda feels about trying. The game's camera can be annoying, but it does earn points for rarely failing me during combat, and there is a minor glitch that makes Baldur stand on an enemy's head if they are underneath him as he comes to the ground after aerial combat; this makes combat frustrating and disrupts the flow of action. The controls have a bit of a learning curve, and even after hours they feel a tad sloppy and inaccurate, especially with ranged weapons.

Despite all of its issues, however, Too Human is pure addictive fun with massive replay potential. This is the first game of a trilogy, and I"m sure it will do well enough to guarantee it being continued. I would love to find out more about the story (despite feeling shallow throughout, it ends on a great cliffhanger, with one of those memorable images I was speaking of) and see some of the game play errors corrected. I haven't tried online multiplayer yet (largely because I'm lamenting the lack of four player co-op; it's hard to take full advantage of a wide variety of classes with only two players), but I can imagine that its just as much fun as playing solo.

Too Human is not going to change the way the gaming industry works, but it is a satisfying game play experience set in an immersive world populated by brave heroes and repulsive villains; it's why we play video games in the first place.

Zoids... These fantastic motorized snap-together toys were less of a hit in the United States as they were in Japan, but infected the American boy-consciousness nonetheless. From their guest spots with Spider-Man to the bizarre comic book series by cult idol Grant Morrison, Zoids have made an indelible mark on the history of the toy consumer legacy.

Now that legacy will receive a much-needed facelift as the franchise is updated for next gen video game consoles with Zoids Assault.

Too Human does indeed have its problems, which I will address later as one must know something about the game before they understand why those problems are indeed problems. However, there are so many things that the game gets right that it's easy to overlook those problems. The much-heralded blend of action gameplay with role-playing elements is a seamless blend of the instant gratifciation one gets from plowing through swarms of enemies and the satisfaction one feels when they see their once-weak character growing into a walking war machine. In so many RPGs, either traditional or more action-based, the game starts out hard and gets easier; with Too Human, enemies scale to your level and more powerful items are available as you advance. So while enemies can stand toe-to-toe with you as far as base statistics go, your weapons and armor (highly customizable thanks to the game's "rune" system) more than balance the odds in your favor; coupled with the incredibly deep skill trees available for the game's five classes, and skilled gamers will have no problem making scrap out of the screen-filling enemy packs with whom Baldur does combat.

All of the carnage is presented grandly, with breathtaking visuals of extradordinary detail. High-ceilinged rooms, wide vistas, and towering statues create an epic feel for the settings, giving the impression of the technologically advanced society in which the game takes place. Every setting feels alive--even the eerily-quiet cyberspace--and there are more than a few moments that will send chills down the spine of gamers-from the first moment a robotic troll crawls out from under a pile of wreckage to the frightening sillohoutte of a great dragon gliding underneath a crystal lake to the twisted, soulless halls of Helheim. Too Human may not win any awards for gameplay, but I fail to see how any game, even Grand Theft Auto IV, can outshine this game when it comes to graphics and level design.

As much as Too Human does well, there are things it does poorly, however. First, this is the first game with any kind of RPG elements that I have ever played that does not allow any power-ups or character abilities to self-heal, save for the class dedicated to healing. There are health orb pick-ups, but there is nothing that the gamer can access to boost their health when they really, really need it. Granted, there is no strict penalty for dying (which, in turn, makes many of the more difficult battles more a test of patience than skill), but there is no telling how much gameplay time was wasted simply because I kept bloody dying. The game's story is grand and rather well done, but it could use more fleshing out. True, I'm of the school that thinks that games should be games first and story-telling mediums second, but if you're going to try something--well, we all know how Yoda feels about trying. The game's camera can be annoying, but it does earn points for never failing me during combat, and there is a minor glitch that makes Baldur literally stand on an enemy's head if they are underneath him as he comes to the ground after aerial combat; this makes combat frustrating. The controls have a bit of a learning curve, and even after hours they feel a tad sloppy and inaccurate, but thankfully one never needs too much precision in this game.

Thankfully, this is the first game of a trilogy, and I"m sure it will do well enough to guarantee it being continued. I would love to find out more about the story (despite feeling shallow throughout, it ends on a great cliffhanger, with one of those memorable images I was speaking of) and see some of the game play errors corrected. Despite all of its issues, however, Too Human is pure addictive fun with massive replay potential. Each of the five classes (the damage dealing Berzkerker, the armored Defender, the long-range fighting Commando, the Bio-Engineer with healing abilities, and the well-rounded Champion) feel unique, and nobody will have the same experience with their first playthrough. I haven't tried online multiplayer yet (largely because I'm lamenting the lack of four player co-op; it's hard to take full advantage of a wide variety of classes with only two players), but I can imagine that its just as much fun as playing solo.

Too Human is not going to change the way the gaming industry works, but it is a satisfying game play experience set in an immersive world populated by brave heroes and repulsive villains; it's why we play video games after all.

Just when Batman fans had given up all hope on a possible game adaption for “The Dark Knig

Just when Batman fans had given up all hope on a possible game adaption for "The Dark Knight", news had suddenly spread that there were, in fact, 2 Batman games on the way. Eidos has revealed that they are currently working with UK developer Rocksteady Games on a title called "Batman: Arkham Asylum" for the X-Box 360 and Playstation 3 systems.

Entering Rocksteady Games' website, we now see a countdown clock with an enormous bat sprawled across the page: http://www.rocksteadyltd.com/

"Batman: Arkham Asylum" will be co-written by comic book legend, Paul Dini, with intentions of writing a true-to-character Batman game. An online summary on Game Informer's website reveals the following:

This completely original title explores Gotham City’s darkest location, the infamous Arkham Asylum. But as a routine prison transfer goes wrong, the Joker sets his demented plan into action and Batman comes face to face with an army of his worst enemies.

The next issue of Game Informer features 2 covers which can be seen below.

Scans of the article have also turned up online. On the left, we see Batman returning the Joker to Arkham Asylum, and on the right, Batman standing head-to-head with a ginormous Killer Croc!

Little is known about this 2nd game that Pandemic is developing for Electronic Arts, although we do know that it will be based off events from "The Dark Knight" movie. However, rumor is that this game is currently in poor shape with highly repetitive gameplay that lacks versatility in its control system. We can only hope Pandemic gets their act together in the final product.

To note, we can now expect 5 Batman-related games in the coming months ahead: DC Universe Online, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Batman Lego, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and "The Dark Knight". 2008 is, indeed, the Year of the Bat!

That's right true believers! Avatars will only appear in games that are rated: eC = Early Childhood, E = Everyone, & E10 = Everyone 10+. Games with ratings of T = Teen or higher will not receive the avatars. Shame...there's so many possiblities for an Avatar for GTA V when it comes out...oh well!

But, I generally think this is a good idea by Microsoft, I don't think there really is any need for them in games like Gears of War, GTA, F.E.A.R., or any other game like that. What would be the point? I think game like Scene It? and other party games definately need them. Good move Microsoft.
