My Advise ->

• For Instant messaging use iCText ... with all your iCTel contacts / Skype, MSN, Yahoo, etc etc etc
• For iCTel VOIP calling from your PC / laptop / Apple Mac (if your'e lucky enough to own one) use X-Lite
• For your Mobile phone: Use the iCTel mobile software (version of award winning software called Fring pre-configured with iCTel server settings) which iCTel will release soon for download on your mobile phone when out and about to save money (SMS's are too slow and expensive once you are used to instant messaging).

Have fun. As you can see there are amazing benefits to using the iCTel service, which will be fully operational before the end of 2008, not to mention the fact that they share their profits with the users

Let's get down to business. What you'll need is a softphone, will use x-lite from counterpath that's very good. What we'll be trying to do is automate x-lite, making a call to the client and a call to the operator of the support in your company. X-lite will be registered to a server of your choice and all the calls will be initiated by you, therefore all the costs are on your side.

1. Install X-Lite.
2. Configure X-Lite to get a phone extension in your server. (This guide is not about that). Also put the Auto Conference button turn on!! It's the AC button. This is very important!
3. Once you have X-Lite configured and ready to make calls we need to automate it.
   For that you will need to download and install a automation library called AutoIt v3, download it from here.
4. Now with that library installed just download from here an vbscript file, ibembot.vbs,  with calls to Auto It to control X-Lite. It's perfectly SAFE to use.
5. The final step is to create a batch file to call that vbscript so that we will be able to make phone calls automatically.
   Create a click2dial.bat file in the same directory in which you downloaded ibembot.vbs file. Inside the bat file you will place the following content.

   ibembot.vbs -call [PhoneOfUser]
   ibembot.vbs -hold
   ibembot.vbs -line 2
   ibembot.vbs -call [PhoneOfOperator]

   Please substitute the [PhoneOfUser] with the actual phone number of the user to call an [PhoneOfOperator] with the phone number or extension to reach your support service.
   Now save the file and you're all set. Open X-Lite and run the batch file. You will see that X-Lite starts to make a phone call to the user phone, putting on hold and in the second line calls support. When both calls are connect they start conferencing.

This can be called through a webservice, imagine an important user that's logged on. He wants to talk to support because something is not working, he doesn't have to pay for that, he can just click a button in his homepage and his phone rings with the operator on the other side! Pretty cool! :)

Asi es, el área a la que pertenezco, Portal, ahora se conforma de 5 miembros en México. Todos los días, de lunes a viernes a las 8:00 a.m. en puntito comienza la chamba con junta en audioconference con Yongjun Huang, el otro integrante del equipo que se encuentra en Estados Unidos (Atlanta) y es chino. Yong lleva la batuta en el trabajo y de entre nosotros tiene el puesto más alto como Senior Software Engineer. Hasta ahora solo puedo decir que es un tipo a todo dar. A la izquierda en el fondo tenemos a Dulce que junto con Jorge (el que está sentado) son los más veteranos del equipo. De hecho fueron los que me hicieron una de las entrevistas de trabajo. Ambos nos han echado mucho la mano para ponernos al corriente de las cosas y familiarizarnos con el trabajo. Cuidadito con Jorge, porque asi como lo ven de sonriente, tiene su genio el muchacho.
Al lado de Dulce, un servidor, aunque solo se vea una mancha cafe les aseguro que si soy yo. Y es que con mi tono de piel más las tostadas de nadar en una alberca destechada me estoy poniendo bastante obscurito. Pero ni modo todo sea por la natación, algo tendré que sacrificar.
Al lado de mi esta Adrián y luego Daniel. Los tres somos las más recientes adquisiciones del equipo. Ahi vamos acoplándonos poco a poco. Al menos creo que la foto parece indicar que todavía nos llevamos bien, o no? De mi parte pues no me quejo y puedo decir que a pesar de que ya he tenido algunas chambitas que me han hecho quebrame la cabeza, estoy más que contento.
El equipo tiene un manager, Chris Boraski, que a su vez está a cargo de muchas más personas. Aqui una imagen de un Google Maps que muestra las locaciones donde se encuentra todo el personal bajo el cargo de Boraski. Asi que nuestro trato regularmente es con personas americanas, inglesas, chinas y de la India (Según la RAE hindúes o indios son ambos correctos, aunque en sentido estricto hindú se refiere al practicante del hinduismo. Se aceptan ambos donde no exista riesgo de confusión, es decir cuando hindú no se confunda con su sentido estrictamente religioso y cuando indio no se confunda con el gentilicio para denominar poblaciones aborigenes americanas). De todos, a los hindúes se les percibe una cierta tonadita muy curiosa cuando hablan el inglés (Supongo que ellos han de opinar algo nuestra pronunciación a la mexicana).

Para realizar las conferencias usamos un producto de Intercall llamado Raindance. Además podemos seguir la llamada con un softphone que en este caso yo uso X-lite, lo más padre de este servicio de voz sobre IP (VOIP) es que con mi laptop me basta con tener una conexión inalábrica a Internet, por ejemplo un Starbucks, para contar con un teléfono portátil con un número local en el que puedo realizar llamadas locales y a cualquier parte de Estados Unidos.

Para instalarlo debemos bajar primero el archivo - X-Lite_Install.tar.gz - que se encuentra en la "caja compartida de descagas" de este blog lado derecho).

O bien se puede descargar del sitio de xlite directamente.

Nota: estas instrucciones sirven tanto para el archivo que aqui se baja, como para el que se decarga del sitio de xlite. Es la misma version actualizada.

Despues de descargar el archivo comenzamos con la instalacion de X-lite.

INSTALACION:

Desempaquetar el archivo:

tar -zxvf /ruta/de/la/carpeta/X-Lite_Install.tar.gz

Nos movemos a la carpeta creada

cd xten-xlite

Cambiamos los permisos al ejecutable:

chmod +x xtensoftphone

Corremos el programa:

./xtensoftphone

Listo...
