Sorry to be late on this, but the NY GIANTS WON THE FREAKING SUPERBOWL!!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!

-THEY BEAT THE PATS TO DO IT! HOLY SHIT AGAIN! Now New England can eat our ass for ruining their chances at history! Is there anything more poetic? Of all the cities to end this story, it's New York, New York! How cruel for them. How great for us.
-The season started with the NY Jets (my preferred team, but NY is still my city) calling out the Pats for cheating, but getting blown out anyway. Then the story comes full circle 5 months later...right back to NY.

-My Boss went to the game. He said he stayed in the best worst seat in the place. What would that be? The very, very last row, at the 50 yard line (well, more like 47 he said). Is that really the 'best worst seat'? What about halfway up, right behind the goalpost?

-The Pats were selling copies of "19-0: The Historic Championship Season of the Unbeatable Patriots" on Amazon. But they've taken it down. Be sure to check out the commemorative SI book on the Pats championship season, which you can still buy though (Brady's superhero look is quite inspiring). It reminds you that in some alternative universe, the Pats won, Gore was president, and arthropods never existed.

-I've been trying to find the Giants song from their 1987 Superbowl win that was played on wplj 95.5fm. It's an awesome song about how they were 'going to Pasedena to have some fun/they won the Superbowl 21/the Giants are number 1'. Does anyone have this song or know about it? Or know where I can get it?

Does anyone know anything about a Sulfur Bath? Someone I know wanted me to take a Sulfur Bath to help me with my itching. But I heard they smell like farts. And that it lasts a few days (the smell that is), though supposedly you feel pretty good afterwards. I'm not too keen on bathing in my toilet so I can't see how something smells like ass but makes you feel good. (Maybe this is what dogs smelling other dogs asses is about...'Is that sulfur I smell up there?')

SPORTS!!!!

I came across an article today from Cold Hard Football Facts that I must address. Certainly the Giants run to the Super Bowl this year was very special and deserving of great praise. Afterall, it's remarkably similar to the Steelers run from just 2 years ago. The article states, however, that the Giants run was the single toughest playoff stretch to win the Super Bowl ever.

I respectfully disagree.

As I read through the arguement, it became very clear that their point was well made and very convincing. The Cold Hard Football Facts don't lie. Unless, you choose not to include all the facts. The "data" that was gathered for some reason picked up for each team at the divisional round of the playoffs. Not sure why, except that it made a stronger case for the Giants I guess. Rule #1, no team that has a 1st round bye will EVER be considered to have the toughest SB road, so we can throw all those teams out. That's the only rule...therefore, when trying to decide who had the toughest road the the SB you MUST include the Wild Card round, and you must play on the road in that round.

The Giants and the Steelers fit the bill and very few others. The 6th seed Steelers of 2005 played the Bengals (11-5, division winners) while the 5th seed Giants drew the Bucs (9-7, division winners) in the Wild Card round. I could stop now, because when you include ALL the data, the Steelers and the Giants opponents had the same record, not the 2 game advantage that the skewed CHFF's show. [2005 NFL Standings] [2007 NFL Standings]

But...we all know in football there are intangibles that must be taken into account. One of the biggest is playing a division rival anytime, let alone the playoffs. The Steelers split their games in '05 with the Bengals but had just been beaten by them 5 weeks prior to cap off a 3 game losing streak that nearly knocked the Steelers from even making the playoffs. The Giants meanwhile drew the weakest of the division winners from a division that stunk it up all year and only produced ONE Pro Bowl player (from the whole division). How convenient that this game was not included in the CHFFs.

I think I've said enough to prove my point. I'm sure I could add more, but maybe I can hear some good points from someone else in regard to this. Fire away, because the Steelers of '05 made the MOST improbable run to the Super Bowl Championship ever...and it lasted 8 weeks, not just 4.

UPDATE: CHFF linked to 5goldenrings.net and has another "new" article on the same topic. This one actually includes Wild Card playoff data and shows clearly the point I was making...minus the intangible factors that I know CHFF aren't interested in.

Good morning, i just got up like 10 minutes ago and it's 4:04 am at the moment. Some nights ago i couldn't sleep (night between sunday and monday) so i turned on the tv although i knew nothing is on at that time, i was wrong. They showed Super Bowl XLII between the New England Patriots and New York Giants live and i decided to watch for a while and support the underdog of the game, which was the Giants. I ended up watching the whole game and Giants won against the "perfect" Patriots, who've had the perfect seasons without a loss, first lost game of the season and that's the final, isn't that ironic? We had Endrive practice on monday and yesterday which have been great. Our EP is out now, so you can contact the band if you want yours (endrivemusic@gmail.com). Other than this me and Mel have been packing and getting stuff together, slowly but surely. Next week we're going to IKEA and on friday (the 15th) i/we finally move in to the new apartment. But now i'll go and have some breakfast so see you guys soon again.

18-1. A record in the NFL that would usually receive a standing applause but not on this day. The

18-1. A record in the NFL that would usually receive a standing applause but not on this day. The Patriots entered Superbowl XLII undefeated, on the brink of perfection. A perfection that has never been reached in the NFL outside of the 1972 Miami Dolphins in a 14 game season but in the modern day game, the Pats were a game away from 19-0. But the Pats finished their season with an 18-1 record... without a championship. In retrospect, the Patriots failed what they set out to do, win their fourth championship in seven years. They did not start the season with the goal of going 19-0 in mind, 18-1 would be a great record if your one loss wasn't the biggest game of your life.

One team stood in their way, the New York Giants. An underdog from the NFC, the lowest seed from the conference to go to the Superbowl. A team that started the season 0-2, a coach halfway through the exit door, and a quarterback criticized in the New York limelight after every game. This team stood in the way of perfection, of an upcoming dynasty, and of NFL history. Yet one word can sum up the Giants. CONFIDENT.

The Giants defensive played brilliant, making Tom Brady for the first time all season look human, Brady never spent so much time on the ground in a game all season until now as the Giants front four relentlessly came after Brady and the ball. The Giants ranked number one in sacks this season and it was no doubt they rattled Tom Brady. In the first quarter, Justin Tuck had 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 6 tackles. Teams during the regular season are lucky if they can even get 2 sacks and here Tuck compiled 2 sacks by himself. The Giants sacked Brady 5 times, the most New England has given up all season during their historic run. The Giants defense smacked the best offense right in the mouth all game and held the Brady and the most prolific offense in NFL history to a season low 14 points. The defense had a plan and followed it all the way through and dictated what they wanted New England to do.

On the other side of the ball, who can say more about Eli Manning. Perhaps the most criticized quarterback all season under the New York media finished his maturation under the biggest stage of them all. Remember it was the season finale against the Patriots that started Eli's growth as a quarterback and ironically it is against the Patriots in the Superbowl that solidified his coming as an NFL quarterback. Eli played in one of the most dramatic Superbowls in history, leading his team from behind in the fourth quarter to win the game. The Giants trailed 10-14 and on a 3rd and long, Eli slipped out of the hands of five Patriot defenders and threw the ball down field for what would be a remarkable 32 yard reception by David Tyree. This play will be remembered as one of the best plays of Superbowl history and as a play that exemplified Eli's competitive nature and his coming as a quarterback. Eli capped the drive with a 13 yard touchdown to who else but Plaxico Burress, who guaranteed a victory against New England.

"Any Given Sunday" cannot be used to explain the Giants Superbowl victory. The better team won, the Giants smashed the Patriots right in the mouth, put them in the ground and confidently carried themselves against a juggernaut of a team. The Giants just outplayed the Patriots and blatantly wanted it more as evident by the 3rd down play by Eli and Tyree. Just the determination by these two players to not give up on a play perfectly illustrated the Giants as a team. This is not an upset, not a letdown but one of the greatest Superbowls and a story of a team that stood in the way of NFL history and did not back down at all.

He is no longer. Like my counterpart, HHY, I too feel for quarterbacks like young Eli Manning and Rex Grossman for the scrutiny and criticism they go through trying to lead there teams through an NFL season. Both Eli and Rex exhibited similar traits - huge games one week with people comparing them to Hall of Famers, then horrendous games the next with people wishing they never uttered the word "Hall of Fame" in the same sentence.

Eli just shook that monkey off his back last night. And, as with all stories that feature monkeys, you liked every damn minute of it. Superbowl XLII, not to be confused with what some people call my massive head , was one of the greatest football games I have ever seen in my life. I'll admit - I went into the game wanting to see the Patriots pull it off. I wanted to see the perfect season and not just to shut the Dolphin's up. It felt like basketball in Chicago during 90's all over again. The Bulls were the most dominant team I've ever watched and I can remember how exciting it was to experience that. That is a sports story that I can relive with my kids, just like how my dad shares his Bears stories with me each year. And to say that I watched the Patriots win all 18 games and then take Superbowl XLII into the records books would have been fun.

But then the Giants win. And honestly, I'm not a Patriots fan. Now I can tell my kids how the New York Giants beat the unbeatable team during their "perfect" season (which will now forever be put in quotes on this blog). Underdogs, going into the playoffs as a wild card team. First NFC wild card team to win the Superbowl. With the line being 12 points against them. Rolling off two TD's in the second half and rattling Brady so much with their D-line attack that even he's still trying to figure it out.

So I guess what I'm trying to get to is this: Why the hell are the Giants so lucky with their "Rex of the East Coast" and we lost so badly last year with the Real Rex? And if he actually comes back as our starter next year then he better have been taking notes last night. That and he needs an O-line. And a defense that played like the G-Men did.

I know. Wishful thinking. At least I have a great underdog story to tell to my kids.

18-1 just doesn't have the ring of 19-0. I wasn't alive to see the Miami Dolphins go 17-0 in 1972 and it looks like it may be another 36 years before we see someone finish what the Patriots couldn't. With the addition of two extra games, the money being poured into college athletics, and the talent flowing out, the reality is that we may never again see a team do what the 1972 Dolphins did. We all missed a chance to witness history last night. Perfection was out of reach.

I'm not certain what it was about last night's game, but nothing seemed to hold my attention. Maybe it was the low score (7-3 at half time... huh???). Maybe it was the not nearly as funny as usual commercials. Maybe it was the expectation that, of course the Patriots were going to win. Whatever it was, last night's game seemed to have lost the luster of a "Super" Bowl.

Congratulations to the Giants for a hard fought victory. They made the last few minutes thrilling, and I even caught myself holding my breath. It made for a great game, although it was a massive letdown to miss out on perfection.

Story Lines:

Eli Manning came of age in leading his team to a victory. He has officially stepped out of Peyton's shadow and into the limelight.

Has the Curse of the Babe hit Tom Brady? We all saw what happened to Tony Romo when Jessica Simpson came to watch him play.

Was Brady's ankle still bothering him?

The Giants win a Super Bowl without Tiki and Jeremy Shockey.

Where was the Pats' offense? The Patriots only scored 14 points; their lowest total all season. For the last time the Pats scored less than 14 in a game we have to go back to January 14, 2006 in a playoff game against Denver they lost 27-13.

For the last half of the season, the Patriots defense was as dependable as could be at getting the ball back for the offense and stopping teams in the fourth quarter. Last night, they allowed two TDs late.

My wife and I agreed the Super Bowl ads as a whole this year were below par. For a while, they didn't do much to bring excitement to what was a pretty un-exciting game for three quarters. Luckily, the last six minutes of Super Bowl XLII were probably the most exciting last six minutes in Super Bowl history. I also contend that Manning's Houdini-esque toss to Tyree was the best play in Super Bowl history. But I'll go more into that later.

As for the commercials, here are the ones that stood out to me ...

5. Budweiser: Thunder -- Budweiser's found a way to make the Clydesdale commercials both funny and a bit heartwarming.

4. FedEx: Pigeons -- I like Super Bowl commercials that look like they put a lot of time, money, thought, humor into it. This one combined it all.

3. Pepsi: Justin Timberlake -- OK, so I'm a closet Justin Timberlake fan.

2. Tide: The Talking Stain -- There wasn't a commercial that made me laugh harder.

1. Coca-Cola's Parade balloons -- Maybe I just liked watching Charlie Brown win in the end. This commercial, to me, was by far the most creative of the bunch. (Side note: Notice the little girl dressed like Lucy holding the football at the 51 sec. mark)

Honorable mention: Vitamin water: Shaq on the horse; Bud Light: Jackie Moon; T-Mobile: Hi Chuck

The five worst:
1. LifeWater: Thriller -- An example of what happens when a lot of time, effort, money goes into a commercial, but it has no humor, no creativity and really makes no sense. I hated this commercial and will never drink LifeWater because of it. Not that I would have anyway.

2. Pepsi Max: What is Love? -- Wasn't funny, and the "punchline" was weak.

3. Amp: Push it -- I'm sure this one appealed to the people who love watching large men clamp wire cables to their nipples to rev up a car.

4. Cars.Com: Death Match -- Both cars.com commercials fell flat (the shrunken head one gets dishonorable mention).

5: SalesGenie.com: Both Commercials -- You pay millions for two Super Bowl ads, and this is all you could muster?

Click here to play MSNBC.com's Super Bowl Commercial bracket tournament to pick your favorite. It's a fun little 5-minute time waste.

First off, let me say that I don't really care about football at all, but this was a special Super Bowl for a bunch of reasons.

First of all, the answer to life, the universe, and everything, anyone?

Secondly, it's the first one I watched all the way through, ever.

Thirdly, I feel kind of bad for the Patriots, I wasn't really rooting for them, but I wasn't really rooting for the Giants either. It just kind of really sucks for them to have gone that far and gotten not much out of it but a few records.

And fourthly, I actually kind of enjoyed it, so that was cool.

Wow! This game has to be one of the best Super Bowls ever. And I don't remember seeing such a spectacular play as this one. It was the game changer 1 minute left which propelled the Giants to victory. Again, the play is simply jaww dropping.

Eli Manning and the Giants deserve this win. The defense was phenomenal, and Coach Kauflin certainly vindicated himself -- he'll be coaching the Giants for quite some time, I predict.

February 4, 2008

Dear Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick, and Tom Brady,

Peyton, Eli and I would like to express our sincere condolences for the Patriots’ loss in Super Bowl XLII. We know how heartbreaking it can be to lose big games, and we appreciate that things are tough in this dark time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you confront this heretofore unknown sensation.

However, our representatives have brought to our attention that this marks the second year in a row that the Patriots’ season has ended with a loss to a Manning-quarterbacked team. According to legal professionals working on our behalf, this constitutes a transfer of possession. In plain language, we own you.

Our representatives will visit your office tomorrow, Mr. Kraft, so that you can sign the necessary transfer of ownership documents. You have one (1) week to clean out your office and vacate the premises. We are also revoking your parking privileges immediately, however.

It is with regret that we announce that effective immediately, Coach Belichick’s employment with the Patriots is terminated. He can call in and leave a forwarding address where we will send his belongings.

Some other changes are in order. These are summarized below: the team mascot will now be know as the Archies; the stadium will be known as Manning field; and super-models will now be provide for all the players to impregnate, not just Mr. Brady.

Regarding Mr. Brady’s status, he is to become a backup quarterback to Peyton, and will be forced to play any game of Peyton’s choosing, in the hopes that he will learn to stop choking when he sees a Manning on the other sideline.

We will be in contact with any further changes. Please apprise us of the progress of those outlined in this letter.

Regards,
Archie Manning

P.S. Eli called Gisele, so could you send her along today, Tom? Thanks.

Hela 120 miljoner tittare i USA.

Bra säd i Pappa Manning.

Då har man ungefär 3,5 timme kvar framför teven. Börjar tyvärr känna mig lite trött i ögonen.

Super Bowl 42 kicks-off later today and the staff at eargoggles could not be happier. The New Yorkers with their lackluster G-men, led by the only person more annoying than Peyton Manning- Eli. "Easy E" according to his father Archie was always a calm kid, that was Archie's nickname not mine, from an interview off of ESPN not 3 minutes ago, is a little to calm to be in the Super Bowl for me. It's like he's autistic or a little off somehow, I dunno he's just boring and looks like he may have down-syndrome. No offense....Now, New England on the other hand, are good. Really good. I may be a little biased, Tom Brady was my Fantasy QB, but the dude threw 50 Touchdowns. They are on the verge of an historic season and even though some of the staff here could make a lot of money off a Giant victory I am pulling for the "Massholes."
Anyway, my pick: New England over New York 52-17. Brady 4 TDS. Wes Welker MVP.

In honor of the Super Bowl and their Halftime Show our selection today is from one of the ugliest men in rock, other than Lyle Lovett and Eli if he had a guitar, Tom Petty(right). I have seen Tom a couple of times; always a good show. Last time I saw him was at Irvine Meadows out in California on the grass on grass and neither Tom nor the Heartbreakers disappointed. This live set is from one of our Favorite places here at eargoggles-Milwaukee, sure we have only been to Wiconsin in the spring, but it is a pretty cool place.
