Wow - I’m looking forward to playing with this. The 90 second limit on the videos seems like a problem at first, but it may actually force people to be creative. It makes me think of how the new iMovie software works - it encourages you to work with clips of video, and I find myself making short movie clips along with photos to tell a story that is much more interesting than the longer videos. Also - I wonder if the new Flickr video will allow you to embed them in your blog easily like YouTube does

Steve Bryant over at ReelPop has a few more thoughts on the relaunch of YahooVideo:

"Yahoo relaunched its video site this week. It's good. Really, really good actually, and superior to just about all of its competitors in terms of clean design, simple and intuitive nav, higher resolution vids, and bigger screens. Even the most mewl-happy noob could figure the site out. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter."

Check out his post to learn his reasoning. Raises some interesting questions about just what drives and sustains viewers online.

The union representing 25,000 B.C. public servants is talking strike, after contract talks with the provincial government broke down.

"There is no question we will be in a legal position to strike on April 1," B.C. Government and Service Employees Union president George Heyman declared at a hastily called news conference yesterday.

Mr. Heyman said the union has asked for immediate discussions with the government to determine which services need to be maintained in the event of a strike, backed by 80 per cent of BCGEU members.

The government's last offer of an 8.5-per-cent wage increase over four years, plus a $3,300 signing bonus, is not adequate, the union president said, after years of wage freezes and increased workloads.

aPs="boxR";var boxRAC = fnTdo('a'+'ai',300,250,ai,'j',nc);

Mr. Heyman pointed angrily to the lucrative proposed agreement accepted on Saturday by negotiators for the province's 8,800 physicians.

According to a report sent to members by B.C. Medical Association president Michael Golbey, the doctors' tentative new contract provides an average compensation increase of 19.1 per cent over its first four years.

The scope of the pay hike for physicians, whose previous settlement was also considered rich, stunned union negotiators throughout the public sector.

"I don't believe it is fair to give virtually all available money to one group [the BCMA] and stiff everyone else," Mr. Heyman said.

Globe and Mail:Public service, province stop talks

Now if you were in any other industry and the employer put on the table a 8.5-per-cent wage increase over four years plus a $3,300 signing bonus you would probably take it, but not the BCGEU, they want 10-per-cent wage increase over three years and reason they want it only for three years is so that they can blackmail the government in 2010 just before the 2010 Olympics.

I know they got screwed by the present day Liberials when Campbell torn up their contract and said screw you, but one thing the BCGEU does'nt realize is that more of their jobs are going to be contracted out even if it does'nt make a bit of sense to do so.

They should also relize that their numbers might decrease if we have a flu pandemic since we are going to demand that our civil service be on the frontlines fighting it.

VICTORIA (CP) - The union representing 24,000 B.C. civil servants is taking a strike vote to help spur contract negotiations with the government.
George Heyman, president of the B.C. Government and Service Employees Union, told a news conference in Victoria that little progress has been made on major issues like contracting out, privatization and job security.
